This version of Blue Christmas never fails to bring tears to my eyes. Our family brings it out every year with the same reverence we hold for The Night Before Christmas. [![]( " - YouTube") ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MUELu8o5KJg) ---

Handel’s _Messiah_, almost in its entirety. More recently, “All I Want for Christmas Is You” by Mariah Carey: [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXQViqx6GMY&feature=relmfu](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXQViqx6GMY&feature=relmfu) > [@Sitnam](#): > > Carol of the Bells - is strangely sinister, and that pleases me… Me, too! I still have the strongest memory of when I heard it for the first time, sung by my high school glee club. It’s an old Ukrainian tune, sez Wiki: [Carol of the Bells - Wikipedia](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carol_of_the_bells). It _does_ have an urgent rhythm and a vaguely sinister sound that hits my musical sweet spot for some reason I can’t explain. Winter Wonderland is my favorite Christmas song, but it’s only one of many that I love. I just spent the last 90 minutes listening to dozens of versions of “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” on youtube. I didn’t realize that it won an Oscar for Best Song. Or that the girl who sings it in _Elf_ is Zooey Deschanel. ---
