You might be right. I have a vague childhood memory of some family gathering with 2 weird men in white shoes that kept pinching my cheek. Now that I think of it I don’t think that I’ve seen anyone wearing them since that.

A second for baseball caps worn backwards. Or indoors.

And I hate button-down collars.

And the unshaved look on men.

And, I don’t know the name for it, but the messy, spikey-looking hair style that has been popular with men the last half-dozen years or so.

And keep those damn kids off my lawn!

I don’t like the look of
skinny jeans
Work boots as fashion- usually with the laces all unraveled
jeans with holes
short sleeved shirts worn over long sleeved shirts.
Those puffy quilted jackets made of shiny fabric
cowboy boots
Sweats in public
Shirts that tell you what store they came from
Turtlenecks

I do like
Plaid- unless it’s in a work shirt
Pea coats
low rise, boot cut jeans
Ombre dyes
fitted tees
70s style Converse and Adidas sneakers

Hate:

-Those billowy, shapeless blouses with the psychodelic print that look like something your grandmother would wear in the 1970s, but are now popular for some strange reason.

-Skinny jeans. I don’t care what the fashionistas say, no one looks good in them. And sagging skinny jeans are the worse. Skater dudes, I’m looking at you.

-Nylon jogging suits. Again, no one looks good in them. Not in the 1980s, not in the 1990s, and not now. Clothes should not make noise when you move. Nor should they be shiny and have elastic at the ankles.

-White sneakers and tennis shoes. Athletic shoes are meant to get dirty. I have no problem with dirty, well-worn shoes. But there’s nothing crazier-looking than seeing someone wearing a nylon jogging suit and sporting ultra-white tennis shoes. But I admit I’m in the minority.

Love:

-Turtle neck sweaters layered under a button-down or a jacket.

-Button-down shirts layered under a darker pull-over sweater

-Simple brown, gray, or black oxfords–preferably suede or canvas. Low heel but not flat. Thin to moderate sole. Rounded toe, not pointy or squared. Nothing metalic or shiny.

-Long bohemian skirts, with long button-downs or sweaters.

-Scarves and ascots

-Peacoats and trenchcoats (sorry OP). They may look pretentious, but I don’t want to look like the Stay-Puff Marshmellow Man when I have to venture out into the cold.

There’s a guy up in Canada who makes vintage-style clothing from the 18th to the 20th centuries and he’s gonna get a HUGE chunk of my money if I ever get that amount of disposable income. Detachable collars, spats, an’ either a derby or a homburg. The works.

You ought to look around in [here](http://www.thefedoralounge.com). Sort of a Society for Clothing Anachronism (and no, they’re not ren festers).

The current trend of empire-waisted shirts for women.

Anyone who has boobs larger than, say, a b-cup ends up looking at least 6 months pregnant while wearing them.

Also, the constant knit-fabrics. While not a specific style, I wish we’d move back to a little more structure in women’s clothing - please give me stuff that’s not knit fabric that clings.

It is called a “Soul Patch.” I have no idea why, but I despise them.

Not really a fashion style, than a fashion choice, women who wear 5" heels to Disney World or any other long trekking amusement park/zoo.

A store opened up near me, $5 Fashions. I went in and evidently, that is where the hooker look is found in abundance. I really don’t like ill fitting clothing of any sort. Nor the dirty look.

I do adore 1950’s era dresses, I’d live in them if I could.

Jazz horn players. Helps cushion embouchures that may be overworked and/or the result of unorthodox technique.

Earliest example I know of is Bix Beiderbecke, who wore one during the bout with pneumonia that eventually killed him in 1931.

This regrettable trend could be avoided if more women chose the right size in order to ensure that the waist hits _under_ the boobs. I see too many women wearing these shirts so that the flowy part is dangling off the edge of the precipice, if you will.

It’s not an effing trapeze top\*.

\*These are an abomination.

Hate:

Baseball caps, unless you’re actually playing ball or otherwise trying to keep the sun out of your eyes. It especially drives me crazy when men don’t remove them indoors. Makes you look like an over-grown man-child whose mama neglected to teach him manners. On the other hand, more men should wear fedoras.

Bow ties. For two years, I was the research assistant for an evil little professor who always wore bow ties. Now they fill me with stabby rage. Even if it weren’t for the negative association, it’s hard to wear one and not look like a twerp.

Loves:

Hoodies - I even own three sweater hoodies.
Boot cut pants - they make you look leggy and tall
Doc Martens - comfortable and long lasting shoes/boots
Long sleeved jersey shirts that layer under sweaters/hoodies
Hates:
Clothes that do not fit properly, both too small and too big.
Crocs - they are the ugliest shoes I have ever seen and I remember Dr Scholl’s sandals.
Birkenstocks - a second runner up to Crocs, with a stronger cult following. Unless they are brand new, they always look like they smell bad.
Narrow legged jeans - jeans should hug the ass/thighs, not cut off the circulation to your feet.

You can have my Birkies when you pry them off my cold, dead feet. I don’t wear them for looks…I wear them because 1) they feel great 2) I can walk further in them and 3) my podiatrist approves of them. Now I do rotate them, I have a newer pair that I wear to go out, and an older pair that I only wear in the house. I’m diabetic, and have some neuropathy in my feet, so I get my podiatrist’s approval of my footwear.

I love, love, love:

- wide-leg trousers on women (long-legged ones, anyway - so elegant!)
- pencil skirts
- smart coats on anyone
- v-neck jumpers on men
I hate:
- baseball caps
- in fact, any kind of sportswear worn when not doing spor
- knee-length socks on any female over 12. Oh grow up.
- the wrong accesories. I know some people think they don’t matter. Those people are wrong.

Love: white shirts or blouses. I have dozens. Cotton, linen, silk, lace, long/short sleeve, sleeveless. Dress 'em up, dress 'em down, wear as a light jacket over a tank top.

- I love my long leather trenchcoat. I am a dumpy 5’2", no beauty, and on the down side of 50, and probably look like a beanbag with a rope tied around it, but in my long leather trenchcoat - I. Am. Stylin’!!! I remember the burgundy-chestnut color coats back in the '70s that were popular with women and men. My first love AND Roger Daltrey of the Who (I met him backstage) both had the same long leather coat. A hoodie and sagging pants just don’t cut it with me.
- I love my cashmere sweaters that I find at the thrift stores. I have about a dozen, and no, they are not full of moth holes (well, the ones that do, I just wear around the house)
- I love classic fabrics like tweed - I adore herringbone. I like red Stewart tartan plaid. I like plaid shirts on men (but prefer dark and subtle - not purple, red and yellow!)
- I love to see a slim girl all in winter white (in, duh, winter) or a white linen suit in summer. White looks very “cocktails in front of the fireplace” or “meet me at the country club” .
- Don’t tell anyone, but I love the ‘Goth’ look (yes, I know it’s called something else now and is probably out of style). I’m envious. If I were 16 again, I’d shop at Hot Topic all the time!

I don’t like: short sleeved “dress shirts” on men. They look dorky and low-class. If you men work in an air conditioned office, wear a regular shirt and roll the damn sleeves up over your forearms!

- I hate big white sneakers. Every suburban mom has huge white canoes sticking out of her pant legs. I wear a cheapy pair I got for $13 from K-Mart that have grayed down. They suit me fine. I can’t tell a Nike from a Reebok.
- Ripped jeans on anyone over age 18. Teeny camisoles and tank tops on anyone over age 30. Big, styrofoam pushup bras under same on young girls, the better to show off the goods. No daughter of mine ever left the house with her boobs sticking out, cz initial pendant dangling between them, and her ass crack showing because her pants were too low.
- Is the big, ugly, expensive, bling-y pocketbook fad over? It should be.
- And related, is bling itself over with? One of our well-paid sports heroes here got himself robbed of several thousand dollars of platinum and diamond jewelry hanging around his sweaty neck. I laughed my ass off. I’d imagine this fad may have run its course, getting too dangerous.
- Whatever the style, cut, color, or material of pants - nothing infuriates me more than pants that are too damned short! (Too long on young people, I can understand somewhat. They don’t know how to do a hem/don’t have money for a tailor/don’t have mothers who can fix them). But too short - please see short sleeve dress shirts above.
