What cna you tell about a person by his/her movie collection?

Every DVD I own:

A boxed set of all the Ed Wood movies I got for $6 (IIRC) at a sale

2 DVDs each containing 2 Hindi movies Lagaan/Main hoon na and Devdas/Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam because I can’t rent them and they cost $5 each

I also have The Brian Setzer Orchestra Live in Japan.

Other than the Brian Setzer DVD I have never watched any of them more than once and on thinking about it I guess I should give them away because I will probably never watch them again.

Joeski: Quick assessment: I’m betting you’re a novice in the western genre but you’re trying more movies like that, provided they’re more in the spaghetti western vein or DON’T star John Wayne. You appear to have a thing for Meg Ryan. Solaris wasn’t your thing but pop reference humor strikes a chord with you. You also like movies where one man succeeds in taking on the forces arrayed against him. Also, gritty heist movies. I’m astounded Shaun of the Dead isn’t on your list. You’re a devotee of Sergio Leone, Monty Python and Peter Jackson. I haven’t seen THAT combination before.

Nice. The bit about liking the man who preservers against all odds is dead on. I like to think a man can take on the entire world so long as he has his back against all the right walls. I love spaghetti westers, and may love John Wayne Westerns as well. To be honest I haven’t seen any but I plan to. I’m ashamed to admit it, but I do have a soft spot for a few Meg Ryan romatic comedies. It’s just not right; I’m a man damnit! Perhaps my horror selection makes up for it. “Gritty heist movies” aren’t the words I’d use to describe the crime genre I enjoy. I look for flicks more along the lines of being pulp fiction and noir. Shaun of the Dead is a good movie, but the replayability isn’t too high on that one. Much of it is forgettable, and it starts off slow. I may buy it someday, as I do love a good zombie movie, but not for $20. Still, me and my friend got some good laughs out of it when we saw it in theaters.

I remember Solaris almost had a point, but it never quite reared it’s head. Leaving the viewer to speculate about some thing are all fine and good, but you should provide a hefty amount of content as well. Solaris just didn’t have it.

I love Sergio Leone, love Monty Python, and I love what I’ve seen of Peter Jackson. I wish to see everything all of these people have brought to both the big and small screens. Is it that unusual? I’ve never been described as normal…or anything for that matter since my friends can never sum me up in a nutshell despite trying multiple times. Well, there ya go.

Here’s mine.

A couple of things – 1) If you set the drop-down box at the bottom to “original”, you’ll be able to see all the titles with no problem. However, this is not advisable if you have a dial-up connection.

2. Several large box sets are not kept on this rack. This includes every episode of Monty Python’s Flying Circus, many MST3K box sets, Friends seasons 1-6, and a few more I’m probably forgetting.

3. All crappy films belong to my wife.

I knew you were seriously goofy, but MAN. “Murder by Death?” The On the Road Hope/Crosby movies? UHF? Get Smart Again? UNDERCOVER BROTHER??? Sheee-- even I won’t see that one. Thankfully, though, I didn’t see any Martin Lawrence, Rob Schnieder or Adam Sandler movies so I guess there’s only so low you will go. (Caveat: 50 First Dates and Punch-Drunk Love excluded) No, wait you do have “The Waterboy.” Tsk-tsk. Overall, an interesting mix of humor, sci-fi, and adventure movies here – you have some nice out-of-the-box-thinking type choices in the latter category – The Flint movies, Gold Rush, the underrated Hudson Hawk. The Satanic Rites of Dracula. If you can only be cured of the unfunny sequel disease that compels you to get Airplane 2, Ghostbusters 2, Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls…

Hey, those sequels were all pretty good. And Undercover Brother was a riot - much better than the Austin Powers series.

If you can really extrapolate all that much about my personality from that I’d be surprised. It’s not a very accurate reflection of anything except my taste in movies.
