Almost everyone I know, friends, family, co-workers, etc. does this: When I’m a passenger in their car, they inevitably turn on or leave on the radio, usually at uncomfortable speaking levels. WTF man? We’re having a nice chat when you reach over and turn that shit on to some drivel? I want to slap their hands away but I’m mindful I’m in their car. What’s wrong with people nowadays who think they have to fill every empty moment of their stupid lives with noise? I can understand if we’re not talking, if we’re just driving along in silence, but usually we’re chatting and not unpleasantly. And the music is always too loud. Would you leave it at that decibel if you’re trying to watch TV or talk on the phone? Then WTF are you doing it while we’re talking??! When I’m in my own car with passengers, the radio is almost always off. I feel that respecting what your passengers want to listen to (since people don’t like my music) is part of being a good host/driver

I am (or could be) halfway into the store, theater or wherever and she (it could be the wife or daughter)is still doing _something_ in the car. I think it may have something to do with make up or the purse or something. I really should stay behind in the car sometime to see just what the heck they are doing that takes soooo long.

I hate that too! I live in a high-rise overlooking a parking lot and I watch people drive in and sometimes I think they must have died in there. It IS usually a woman. It drives me crazy, I wonder if driving home tired them out so much they have to rest up before they can come inside. I am female and don’t ever remember doing that.

People often fall asleep in the bus. That doesn’t bother me. Goodness knows, I’ve been guilty of it myself. What I dislike is when people rest their bare head/hair (i.e. not covered by a hat or hood) against the window of the bus to sleep, and consequently, leave a big spot of oil/grease on the window. Bleh.

Also, people gesturing while on the phone. I always feel like saying to them, “I have some big news for you. The person you’re talking to can’t actually see your gestures.” I once even saw a girl eat a banana while on the phone, and then she gestured with the banana peel while talking! Although that was more funny than annoying. 🙂

People who park in bays that are 90° off from the carriageway by reversing into them. I can’t even articulate why this annoys me, but whenever I see a car parked that way, I just think, “that guy is a pillock.”

And it’s almost always trucks, too (at least around here). Trucks don’t need a better view when they’re getting out of a space - they’re the ones BLOCKING everyone ELSE’S view!

We’ve also noticed that motels have signs saying “Please don’t back into stalls,” and there are _always_ a number of trucks ignoring the signs.

In a similar vein: people who write “wat” in place of “what”. Because that one goddamn extra letter is just going to take up too much time and space and is just too much work. It’s not, and you’re a fucking idiot.

Argh. Just remembered one of my bigger ones: Whistling. It makes me want to stick icepicks in my ears. Boss at my last job was a particularly bad one–completely tuneless random barely audible whistle-meandering. It’s not exactly why I quit, but it definitely didn’t help.

And, of course, I am a total hypocrite, as I whistle sometimes myself. But I can more or less carry a tune, at least w/in a limited range.

I’m with you.

The first day I got my new car, I locked it about three times before I had time to sit down with the owners manual and figure out how to turn that damn thing off. Now it still flashes the lights, but the only noise is the soft “click” of the doors locking.

I feel insanely rude with the honk feature on…ugh. Just not my style.

Now if I hit the “lock” button while the doors are open, it will beep at me to say “hey, don’t lock your keys in your car, dummy.” I guess that’s OK…I only do that if my hands are going to be really full and I need to put my keys in my pocket before closing the door.

>
> _deep, shakey breath_…I think I’m ok now. But I really hate that meaningless phrase.

While it doesn’t drive me to any sort of rage comparable to this, I completely DON’T get why people go bonkers over this phrase. What exactly are people supposed to say instead, regarding a situation to which there’s no real answer, no options and so on without using a lot of actual unnecessary words?

Should a person simply say nothing and stare when such a situation arises? (rude and odd). Take 100 times as much time as saying why “it is what it is” to explain something that isn’t going to change the outcome anyway?

It’s a succinct way of boiling down a LOT of explanation about a given situation (with no solution) into a simple meaning that everyone understands. It does have a meaning, it really isn’t “meaningless” it’s shorthand for “here’s the situation, it’s been explained 10 times over, nothing anyone has to say/do/demand etc and so on is going to change anything, nothing can be done, deal with it, blah blah blah blah blah”. It shortens all of that to “it is what it is” which everyone understand to mean “shut up and deal” (or maybe people who hate 'it is what it is" so much would prefer ‘shut up and deal’? I don’t know, that is nasty and mean, whereas “it is what is” isn’t…argh!).

I don’t get this, and consequently this “gets my goat” just a little. 🙂
