I forgot to mention:

My son won a radio contest, and went to see Smashing Pumpkins.

He got to sit in on their rehearsal, watch the show, AND and hour meeting/talking with the band.

Got all his CD’s signed, and he was floating on air for several days.

Wow, I haven’t been to nearly as many concerts as everyone else. I’ve only been to see:

**Foreigner/38 Special** : Saw them in college about 8 or 9 years ago. Kinda sad, really. They used to fill stadiums, and now they were playing in the school’s cafeteria.

**Backstreet Boys** : Took my wife to see the opening concert of their current tour.

I’m old and contrary enough not to worry overmuch about admitting to:

Kansas, with Loverboy opening

It got a lot better after that:

They Might Be Giants (2x, including the night I met my wife)
R.E.M.
The Connells (3x)
Elvis Costello (solo 1x, w/the Atrractions 1x)
Nick Lowe (solo 1x, opening for Elvis Costello)
Aztec Camera (opening for Elvis Costello and the Attractions)
The Go-Gos
Translator
Joe “King” Carrasco and the Crowns
Alex Chilton
Flat Duo Jets (3x, including once opening for the Cramps)
The Cramps
The Coolies (at least 4x)
Guadalcanal Diary
The dBs
Tiny Lights
The Fleshtones
The Gunbunnies
Bo Diddley
Drivin’ N Cryin’ (a very early gig at the 688 Club)
Tav Falco and Panther Burns
Les Freres Michot

I’m sure I’ve forgotten a lot of stuff; most of my early twenties are only a blur to me at this remove.

Ah.

I’m your hero but you want to marry somebody else.

Story of my life.

They were great, I saw them in this weird space that was a- I think- motel lobby where they had bands for three of four mounths before they closed down. Saw Sucicidal Tendencies there too.

And I am a bastard, but only occasionaily lucky.

Thank God **mouthbreather** hasn’t left me since our tastes in music tend to differ-_ahem_-a bit. Here’s my list:

Chavez
De la Soul
Jesus Lizard (ugh!..what we do for love)
Type O Negative-twice (my idea…notice he didn’t go again)
Gomez
Tortoise-twice
Failure
Sebadoah
Unsane (their name should be changed to Unsanitary…yuk!)
Will Oldham/Palace Brothers
Fabulous Thunderbirds
Molly Hatchet (you forgot that one, baby)
Drivin’ N’ Cryin’
Mark Wills
Orb
Orbital

Here’s where we REALLY differ. Shows I’d **like** to see:

Journey
Creed
any bad 80’s Hair Band reunion tour

As you can see, to me the “cheese factor” of the show is paramount to any actual musical talent. I just like to have fun…is that so wrong?! 😕

Starship/John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band/the dude from Survivor (it was sponsored by my work…I had no choice…Mickey Thomas is an ass.)

In the order they pop into my head:

The Clash
The Who (2x - The first farewell show + the first reunion)
The Dixie Dregs
Return to Forever
The Kinks(6x - had tickets for a 7th, but the Phobia tour was canceled)
Ray Davies solo
Van Halen (2x - once with DLR, once with Hagar)
Chixdiggit!
The Ramones (only 1x - ☹ - RIP Joey)
Dick Dale
Sex Pistols (reunion/cash in)
Goldfinger (2x)
Iggy Pop
Offspring (3x)
Green Day (2x)
George Thorogood (3x - including the only time I ever had front row seats to a show(and at face value too!))
The Cars
Rancid
The Rolling Stones (2x)
Bruce Springsteen & E Street Band (3x)
Joan Jett and the Blackhearts (2x)
ZZ Top
Ozomatli
The Blasters (2x - with and without Dave)
X
Garbage
L7
Foo Fighters
John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers
REM
Red Hot Chili Peppers (at the tiny A-level plaza stage at UCLA in 1985 - for free!)
Jane’s Addiction (at the UCLA pizza place where I worked, while I was working. What a hellish night to work)
Social Distortion (2x)
Paul McCartney solo (2x)
Elvis Costello
Paul Westerberg solo
Night Ranger (It was a radio station free show, OK? So stop laughing at me)
Quiet Riot (see above. It’s not funny. Stop it!!)
Pearl Jam
Pink Floyd
David Gilmore solo
The Model Rockets
David Bowie
Victor Borge
Guns n Roses (opening for the Stones)

Last, and certainly least, at the wife’s insistence (the things one does for love)… Celine Dion

[/hijack] I noticed I’m not the only person to have listed both The Who and Green Day (or 60s rock and newer punk). So why the hell can’t I find one single radio station in the country that will play both?? Man, I hate radio consultants. And college radio is just as bad as far as segmentation goes. “Oh, you’ve heard of them before? That means we can’t play them. They’re obviously too commercial for my hip esoteric tastes.”
[/hijack]

AC/DC - 3x, once with Queensryche opening.
KISS - 5x, once with Judas Priest opening, once with Queensryche again.
Ozzy - 2x, once with Ratt and once with Anthrax.
Van Halen - one with Dave, one with Sammy
Sammy Hagar - pre Van Halen
Motley Crue - Theatre Of Pain tour.
Deep Purple - Perfect Strangers tour.
Quiet Riot - Condition Critical tour.
Judas Priest - with the new singer, Motorhead opening.
Motorhead - with Metallica opening, in a small club in Hollywood.
Korn with Rob Zombie opening.
311
Black Sabbath - In 1995. I saw Cozy Powell’s last show with Sabbath before he died.

The loudest by far was KISS at some barn called the Orange Pavillion in San Bernardino CA.
