Wow, I haven’t been to nearly as many concerts as everyone else. I’ve only been to see:
Foreigner/38 Special: Saw them in college about 8 or 9 years ago. Kinda sad, really. They used to fill stadiums, and now they were playing in the school’s cafeteria.
Backstreet Boys: Took my wife to see the opening concert of their current tour.
I’m old and contrary enough not to worry overmuch about admitting to:
Kansas, with Loverboy opening
It got a lot better after that:
They Might Be Giants (2x, including the night I met my wife)
R.E.M.
The Connells (3x)
Elvis Costello (solo 1x, w/the Atrractions 1x)
Nick Lowe (solo 1x, opening for Elvis Costello)
Aztec Camera (opening for Elvis Costello and the Attractions)

The Fleshtones
The Gunbunnies
Bo Diddley
Drivin’ N Cryin’ (a very early gig at the 688 Club)
Tav Falco and Panther Burns
Les Freres Michot
I’m sure I’ve forgotten a lot of stuff; most of my early twenties are only a blur to me at this remove.
Here they are, in near chronological order, starting around 1977.
Had tickets to Lynyrd Skynyrd a month after plane crash. Would have been my first concert. Damn!

I’m your hero but you want to marry somebody else.
Story of my life.
They were great, I saw them in this weird space that was a- I think- motel lobby where they had bands for three of four mounths before they closed down. Saw Sucicidal Tendencies there too.
Thank God mouthbreather hasn’t left me since our tastes in music tend to differ-ahem-a bit. Here’s my list:
Chavez
De la Soul
Jesus Lizard (ugh!..what we do for love)
Type O Negative-twice (my idea…notice he didn’t go again)
Gomez
Tortoise-twice
Failure
Sebadoah
Unsane (their name should be changed to Unsanitary…yuk!)
Will Oldham/Palace Brothers
Fabulous Thunderbirds
Molly Hatchet (you forgot that one, baby)
Drivin’ N’ Cryin’
Mark Wills
Orb
Orbital
Here’s where we REALLY differ. Shows I’d like to see:
Journey
Creed
any bad 80’s Hair Band reunion tour
As you can see, to me the “cheese factor” of the show is paramount to any actual musical talent. I just like to have fun…is that so wrong?!

Last, and certainly least, at the wife’s insistence (the things one does for love)… Celine Dion
[/hijack] I noticed I’m not the only person to have listed both The Who and Green Day (or 60s rock and newer punk). So why the hell can’t I find one single radio station in the country that will play both?? Man, I hate radio consultants. And college radio is just as bad as far as segmentation goes. “Oh, you’ve heard of them before? That means we can’t play them. They’re obviously too commercial for my hip esoteric tastes.”
[/hijack]
