Some clause to prevent a future Trump from naming things after himself.
Nothing owned or run by the government to be named after a living person, or to carry the image of a living person.
For example, to name a ship after a notable Navy officer, that person must be dead at least a year.
To name something after a politician, that person must be dead at least ten years.
Exception to be made for things like driving licenses and passports which obviously have to carry the name and photo of the holder.
I like this except for maybe Medal of Honor recipients.
It might be worth it to do away with fixed election dates, and fixed terms of office. Too many of the problems in the US are built on the foundations of “There’s nothing we can do for the next two/four/six years.”
Find a way that regular voters can remove people from office who are refusing to do their jobs, doing them badly, or are actively engaging in illegal activities. Don’t make removal from office entirely dependent on politicians who are themselves often beholden to the very people you want to remove.
Parliamentary systems have some aspect of this, in that the government can fall any time the Prime Minister loses the “confidence of the house”, but that still relies on MPs being willing to vote against the PM. But it’s still better than what you have the US. The president could be viscerally hated by all the members of the House, and 65 Senators, and still stay in office for the whole four years.
California has recall. This is how we got Schwarzenegger. If enough people sign a petition, there is a special election. The ballot has a yes or no question for removing the existing person and a vote for the replacement. The list of replacements was extremely long and included a porn star.
Or are not showing up because they are medically incapacitated and their staff is covering for them.

He wasn’t telling a joke. He was floating an idea that he has proposed before in a way that allows him an excuse that it was just a joke if the idea fall flat.
Come to think of it, I’d like to see a constitutional amendment ejecting the confederate states from the Union. We tried mercy, but it just didn’t work out.

All Constitutional amendments are fantasyland, now and for the foreseeable future. Only plague or war could bring radical reform, and I doubt those changes would be pretty.
Most of the proposed reforms strike me as ‘management by exception’. Maybe passing (and enforcing!) ordinary laws and procedural changes would be sufficient to address some issues like the filibuster, campaign finance, abuse of power, etc. But I would like to see an avenue opened for impeachment & removal by popular vote, just in case Congress becomes corrupt and refuses to do it when it is clearly appropriate.
Well, that’s the fundamental problem, isn’t it? If the people tasked with enforcement decide to just not do their jobs, no system will work.
So try to design a system that positively rewards actually doing the hard work, and punishes slacking. I’m just not sure how to do that.
