Coins ARE currency. In the USA, paper money is printed at Printing and Engraving. Coins are struck at the US Mint.

Recently, I’ve gotten three quarters in my change with differently-coloured inserts: yellow, blue, and red.

The Dutch Guilders notes from ~ 1980 to 2002 were pretty nice looking. The transition to the Euro was an improvement in many countries but not in the Netherlands (euros are pretty bland in my opinion).

I still prefer the lightness and simplicity of the Euro design. The Australian ones seem gaudy and I can’t figure out what the current NZ series is.

The Australian $50 appears to have Robin Williams in his role as Mrs Doubtfire on it.

Came here to say something like this. After seeing this coin the other day (not in person, just elsewhere on the web), I think it’s my new favorite coin. It just appeals to my inner 6-year-old.

My question is, is this purely a commemorative thing, or is it in regular circulation?

Sigh, I still miss the ‘geeltje’ - which funnily enough refers to a red note - and have always been sad I never got the chance to activily use the 250 notes. At the the time of the switch to the euro, that was more money than I ever needed to spend.

I actually liked the 50 guilders note best, which my Finnish friend called “hippy money” because it had the big sunflower on it.

Yeah, the 50 is prettier, but the 25 used to be the note I used most. I also really liked the fact that it was ‘25’, now we’re stuck with those damn ‘20’ Euro notes. It’s probably just nostalgia talking.
