What crops volunteered themselves in your garden this year?

Tomatoes, tomatoes and more tomatoes. The volunteer plants almost outnumber the intended plants. I’m going to be canning a lot of tomato sauce this summer!

And one giant sunflower, growing right in the middle of the tomatoes.

yes burdock looks very similar for the leaf. rhubarb in good growing conditions will eventually get longer and fatter stems. some will eat burdock root when the plant is very small. otherwise dig it all up and let it dry until death. you can get it anytime before the seeds ripen, though it will rob lots of water from nearby plants.

My volunteer sunflower is right in the middle of my corn crop. I didn’t have the heart to remove it.

Dill (Long Island Mammoth). The last time I planted any was three years ago, in a container. A few keep coming back each year in the regular ground garden.

As mentioned in my mystery plant thread, probably borage. Stuff I know for sure is dill (tons of it), some (I think) Grand Rapids lettuce, parsley, and some green onions that were left to go to seed. I’ve made use of all of that except the borage so far. I also rescued some garlic cloves from the compost bin, and they seem to be happily growing.

Borage is great for compost if you need a use.
Also to add to my list: dill, turnips, mustard and amaranth.

A couple of sunflowers, plus tomatoes that have done well for several years now.

Rhubarb… year after year the same rogue Rhubarb sprouts up. It’s always the first thing that is harvested.

I had some rogue potatoes come up this year (and they’re doing very well), in addition to some tomatoes (ditto).
