No one has mentioned vegetarianism? When I was a kid in the '70s, vegetarians were considered goofy hippie types. Now lots of people are vegetarians and it’s perfectly acceptable (well, except maybe in Texas and other cattle ranching places).
I for one am extremely pleased with this trend. The longer the better.
You see, some of us were born with legs very closely resembling those of a sparrow. Much mockery I have been saved from, relatively speaking. My older brothers who grew up in the 1980’s didn’t have the same luxury.
Fathers parenting.
We were talking about this at work today. Twenty years ago a high school teacher told us that when he was first married with children (maybe 40 years ago now) his wife would go out and if the baby needed a new diaper he’d call her up, she’d come home, change the diaper, then go back to her party.
Today, fathers take their children to after-school events, take them out of the church’s sanctuary when they need to go to the bathroom, bottle-feed them, cook meals…never mind change diapers.
I’m not sure it’s “caught me by surprise” so much as it’s beautiful to see fathers taking an active interest in their children rather than telling mom to deal with it.
