Yeah: she committed to each part (instead of just mugging her way through, as so many do). She’s one of that band of performers who’ve never gotten the recognition they deserve. I’m glad, at least, that the “Mama’s Family” franchise has provided her with a decent living. But, like Tracey Ullman, she had the capacity to do more than showbiz offered her the opportunity to do. ---

Well, crap. That’s what I get for posting without checking my facts. In my defense I come from an alternate universe where it was the Berenstein Bears and “dilemma” is spelled “dilemna.” In that universe it was Lyle Wagonner in the sketch. ---

Dick van Dyke. Dick freaking van Dyke. One of the funniest men in television history. Certainly top five. And he can’t get a word in. Not one in that skit. That’s really a master class from Conway on how to sell an outrageous premise and story. Just brilliant. ---
