The downtime was an unwelcome but needed reality check. I, too, was spending too much time here. It was appalling how much time I actually spent “just peeking” at work: way more than I’d believed. So I got a lot more work done, and happily dove into a lot of books that had stacked up unread. I also spent more time with friends, playing with the dog, getting niggly little tasks done, etc. This place is still wonderful, but I’m carefully regulating the time I spend here now. Veb ---

- - - I discovered two days ago that even as my home computer was showing me the message “Sorry, this board is down for routine maintenance”, I could reach it just like normal from the local college’s computers (and pretty damn nicely too, at 100 K/sec). \*\*\* At least, it _looked_ normal; I didn’t remember my password so I could try to post anything, and this was before the email news arrived. The first couple of days I was having technical problems of my own, and I didn’t know anything anywhere else was wrong. - MC, still(sigh) ---

I discovered that this is indeed rather addicting, and I didn’t get to tell anyone I was going to be gone for a few days. So, no one missed me anyway. I went to visit a dear friend I hadn’t seen in about 8 years, and had a great time!!! _YAWN_ Now, to catch up on all the sleep I missed on the trip from talking til dawn every day and all that driving by myself. I really missed this place while I was gone. Glad to be back, gladder that it’s back! * * * Life is teaching you some painful lessons. But it is from adversity that strength is born. You may have lost the inning, but I know you’ll win the game. ---

He went back to his wife and I wished him every happiness. If anything, I have learned that life is a plethora of pathways and making the choice of which to follow, sometimes requires a map… or at least stopping to ask directions. 😃 * * * I really try to be good but it just isn’t in my nature!
