My wife and son got me— as seen on TV and pitched by Billy Mays— The Big City Slider Station. Now I can make tiny little cheeseburgers until we’re all sick of 'em. My son also drew me a damn fine picture of one of the tiki gods that guard my studio. My dad passed away back in 1999, but I did light a candle for him and wish him well. ---

I got a really pair of laptop usb speakers, a few CDs, a National Geographic subscription, and a thing that’ll maybe (though I doubt it) stop the neighbor’s miserable shelties from barking. And a card from my daughter that was so nice that I couldn’t bring myself to yell at her for something she did that deserved some serious yelling. ---

I gave mein Herr a computer case for his new Mac, and a cool book on “Edible Mushrooms of Illinois”. He’s not a reader, but it has pics out the wazoo, and he’s been up late devouring (heh) this book. He’s been itching to go mushroom hunting, and I wanted to make sure he didn’t kill us all. ---

My father loves classic cars, so my sisters and I went together and bought Dad a model of a 1948 (I forget just what). My middle sister ordered it from one of those specialty places. It’s really lovely, with wood paneled doors and incredible details. Dad just loves it, so it was worth the money. This will be Father’s Day and birthday combined, but at least we got him something he really wanted. Dad is hard to buy for because he’s not greedy, and there’s rarely any “toy” he wants that he doesn’t have, or can’t buy more easily for himself. I love my Dad so I’m glad he’s happy. ---

I got [THE WORLD’S BEST WATERING CAN](http://www.gardeners.com/Large-Watering-Can/Watering_WateringCans,06-341RS,default,cp.html) to replace the one I had had for several years before it developed a leak and got tossed last year. Seriously, if you have more than a couple of pots/annuals requiring a can, this one cannot be beat. ---

I cooked my dad and step mom a dinner for New York Strip steaks, baked potatoes, braised baby spinach, salad with tomatoes from my own garden, pesto rolls, and peach cobbler. ---

I got my dad a classic green Coca Cola glass with a handle for his nightly ice cream floats, a bag of tortilla chips, an eight-pack of Reese’s Cups and had a really nice photo of my mom framed for him. I also got tanked at his Father’s Day dinner and had a spirited debate with my tree-huggin’ sister, but then my dad likes live theater! 😃 (Seriously, he wasn’t annoyed. He drinks as much as I do and he thinks my sister is kind of a weenie too sometimes.) ---

I made my dad [this](http://gizmodo.com/5119781/planetary-gear-business-cards-will-get-you-hired-for-any-job) - a card (though it turned out a lot thicker than a card… more like a toy) with working planetary gears. The pattern is for a business card, but I blew it up a bit. It took me forfreakingever and I ended up with blisters on my knuckles from the scissors, but he loved it. My mom got him a box set of Mystery Science Theater 3000 ---

Both my early 20 ish sons still live locally to me, ok, in the same house. We talk but are always busy going our own directions. On Father’s day I was going about my day when they called me and we met for lunch and beers. This was the best gift for me. I really dislike official celebrations like birthdays and they know this. So they came up with a short simple way to show that they knew what day it was and wanted to spend a little time with me. It was a perfect gesture to me. You would need to know me better to understand that I do not like to be put into the uncomfortable position of being the center of attention, get gifts, etc. A surprise gathering for me is an affront to my desires. But I gleefully participate in those things for others. It just makes me uncomfortable when it’s for me. A nice card was on my desk later that evening. The guys let me know they cared while skating around my uncomfort zone. I liked it. ---

Thoughtful guys. My husband got to spend some time wandering around a local mall with me, (hey it was his idea) and then we headed to Buffalo Wild Wings for some trivia. The kids joined us there for dinner and we all played some more games. He said he had a good time. ---

Fixed my dad dinner and took him to the drag races (pit seats!), then got the hubby a dart board to play baseball on and the DVD to Cirque’s **Quidam**. Plus a card for each.
