Half a dozen mason jar tealight lamps (if you have a Christmas Tree Shop, check them out, these things are cute and dirt cheap), a DVD of a 1001 Classic Commericals and the supermarket version of Eat This, Not That.
She asked for a ticket to Paris to visit a relative there.
So she got a ticket to Paris.
I asked for book recommendations in this thread.
Mom got Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert and Devotion by Dani Shapiro.
Thanks to Kolga for the tip. All the suggestions in the thread were good, but **Devotion **was more her style than anything else. At least I hope.
I’m going to visit Riverview Cemetery in Portland, photograph all of the two family plots worth of tombstones (including my mother’s) and upload them to the Find A Grave website. I urge all of you to do the same, as this website is an extremely valuable tool for genealogists. You can enter bio data, birth/death dates, spouse names, etc. Best of all it’s free to register and to use.
I did get the picture printed and framed in time for the surprise-to-me day early celebration - Mom liked the food storage, but she cried over the picture. Score.
So far, just the ingredients for tomorrow night’s fabulous dinner (mangoes for mango/coconut sorbet, shrimp and a nice crusty baguette for this appetizer, monkfish for this fabulously aromatic Moroccan dish, and a bottle of wine). I tried to buy flowers, but the selection was so picked-over I decided not to bother. I’ll probably go out tomorrow looking for other ideas.
Forgot it again, so I’ll give her a call. I’ve got all day.
Mom’s getting kind of feeble, so - old lady presents. Cheapie cotton nightgown, bottle of Wind Song, and Dearfoam slippers. Slippers are very important to the elderly, they have to feel and fit just right. I bought three pairs for trying on and she picked the good ones. We celebrated The Big Day today.
Gift cert for Lowes (a home improvement store) with the suggestion she buy something for her yard. They have a pretty big selection of flowers, trees and shrubs etc.
I am not getting a gift for my mom this year on the basis she didn’t even use the gift I got her last year.
I upgraded her computer to Windows XP.
Oh. Also two dozen pink roses and a card.
I’m still living in her house, so she has my awesome presence every day here to comfort her. (Which, being an only child, is actually appreciated, but I’m moving out in 3 months.)
I got her a card, and since I’m working tomorrow, we’ll go to dinner somewhere in the following week. We’re very lax on holidays as a family.
A short-notice visit and dinner at a lovely little Italian restaurant tonight.
Nothing, as she is currently in her second home in Portugal. But I got her an early birthday present two months ago, as I took her along with my to TEFAF, the fanciest art exhibition of the Netherlands. She wanted to go, but didn’t want to cought up the ticket costs.
As this is my first mothers day where I’m a mom, I was kinda hoping for some special attention. Nope. <bitter>
I got her a book about a wildlife reserve in Africa and took her to the Mother’s Day concert my orchestra put on.
Mother’s day and my sister’s b-day coincide. My daughter and I will be joining my sibs at Mom’s house - we’re all bringing food. My husband was up sick last night, so he’s staying home, probably phoning his mother later in the day.
My daughter won’t give me anything because I don’t like people making a big deal about me, whether it’s my birthday, my anniversary, or Mother’s day. But she and I will have several hours together in the car to talk and stuff…
They don’t sell cyanide where I live.
She asked for an Eastern Redbud tree, so I’ll be trying to find a decent one today.
My mom has been gone 16 years so instead I’ll share what I got from my baby girl,** BloodyL**.
She gave me a laughing Buddha statue, my favorite because it reminds me of me.
My mom just bought a place in Brooklyn last August. I know space is a top priority, so I don’t generally get her stuff that will just clutter it up. This year she got 15 tulips (her favorite) and a half-dozen chocolate covered strawberries. Last year she got the Mother’s Day collection of ice creams from Jeni’s, the best ice cream in the world. They actually sell Jeni’s at a place in Brooklyn now, so I didn’t repeat the gift, even though my stepfather LOVED the plastic containers it came in.
