Or anything else, for that matter, if you chose to have it engraved for yourself. I bought a new iPod Nano, and the place I bought it from was offering free engraving, so I figured, “Why not?” “Christmas 2007, with love, **freckfree** ” seemed a little narcissistic, and “Property of **freckafree** ” was too prosaic. So what I had engraved on it is, “Everyone suddenly burst out singing,” which is the first line of the Siegfried Sassoon poem, “Everyone Sang.” It just seemed to fit. How about you? ---

I got my Mini with the express purpose for using it while exercising. I had “keep going” put on the back. ---

My husband is not the sentimental type. Once, while we were drinking, I asked him what would be “our song.” His reply: “When I think about you, I touch myself” by the Divinyls. So, when he bought me an Ipod for Valentines last year, that’s what I had engraved. ---

It seems strange to engrave something mental illness related on your ipod. It seems strange to engrave anything at all. Those things break like it’s going out of style. I’m on my 4th daddy pod and 2nd nano. They just don’t last long at all in my experience. Maybe I fuck with them too much. ---

Hmm, interesting. I don’t have or expect to get an ipod, but it’s an interesting notion to have something engraved on an MP3 player. Not sure what I’d pick, but a lyric from a favorite song that’s talking about music sounds like a good choice, and the only one I can think of right now is: “When I sing, they sing along. I forget where I am but I know where I belong.” From “It’s the song,” off Chely Wright’s album ‘Metropolitan Hotel’ 😃 ---

No iPod (just a cheapy “regular” MP3 player) but if I did it would probably have a Belle and Sebastian lyric engraved on it: “If my family tree goes back to the Romans Then I will change my name to Smith.” ---

I picked up my iPod at Target, so it’s not engraved, but I put my name and email address on the back of the Vaja case I got for it. Nothing special, but people do exist who would return a lost iPod, and here’s hoping if I lose it, it’ll end up with one of those people. ---
