I’ll second the never-Trojans thing. Not so much because they’re too thick (being female they all feel the same from this side), but because in my experince Trojans have a much higher break rate than any other brand.

He was born the month after I graduated college in NY and moved back here, so we weren’t on the same path (whatever that even means) to begin with.
I know a lot of guys like pocket knives or Leathermens but a lot of guys (like myself) do not. Seriously, if I got one as a gift it would end up in my toolbox or in a pen drawer. I don’t even like large keychains. A wallet and keys is about all I want to carry around with me.
Make sure he’s a pocketknife type guy before you get him one.

Not to hijack, but I’m gonna have to respectfully disagree on that point.
In other news, I read the thread title as “what to 18 year old boys LOOK like”, and thought for a moment that someone REALLY spends too much time at the computer!

I should have posted this earlier, but I got him a Swiss Army knife a couple of years ago for Hanukah (in Switzerland, even!), so that base has been covered.

To be called men. 
You can get a pretty comprehensive set of metric/SAE socket and box wrenches plus pliers and screwdrivers at Costco or Sears for $100 or so. My nephew seemed to really appreciate that.
