That’s really cool. Peter Sagal of Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me is a runner, as well; he goes out for runs when the show tapes in different cities. Don’t know if he hooks up with local running groups, but he does have a running club in his home of Oak Park.
I saw Weezer live here and they talked about the hotel they were staying at and I figured out they were talking about a 5 star hotel which is not surprising. I’m guessing they don’t do their own laundry.
Alice Cooper really loves golf so I would guess he plays every day he can on tour. When the Jonas brothers were here they played golf at a local course.
Christine Lavin makes a point of knitting with her fans before the show after the soundcheck is complete.
The band that I know well mostly spends their off days … driving to the next gig. They’re also easily distracted in general, so you never know… They could spend an hour looking around some truck stop or half a day trying to find an antique store.

I’ve learned a lot about what it’s really like. Traveling all day in a car towing a UHaul trailer. Lugging all the equipment into the venue yourself. Playing for only a few minutes and then clearing the stage for the “headliner act” to perform.
It’s a trade off for the band. Tour by yourself to smaller crowds or open for a headliner that draws big crowds.

This is Rhett’s other band. Totally different style of music. It’s amazing how Rhett easily shifts from one band’s style to another.
A sideman is hard work and not a lot of pay. But, my younger self would jump at this opportunity. There’s nothing like playing live music.
It was a mystery to some people how Lennon and McCartney’s most prolific (and collaborative) songwriting years corresponded with a brutal performance schedule. Confining two of the greatest songwriters of their generation to a hotel room 12 hours a day probably accounts for much of the Beatles’ early success.
