I had the guts to protest the Apartheid government when they were killing my schoolmates, what makes you think I wouldn’t have the guts to protest Hamas if I lived in Gaza?

We were _schoolkids_.

It’s good to know oneself, but maybe don’t project that onto anyone else, maybe?

Duly noted.

> It doesn’t matter what YOU want, helping Palestine is helping them in their genocide. And if what Israel is doing is considered genocide but wanting to kill all the jews is not then its a pointless word.

Repeating the same false claim over and over again doesn’t make it true. It is obviously possible to help out civilians without helping out combatants. It’s been the standard for warfare since the Geneva convention.

Your position is essentially dogma. You need to believe this is true in order to stick with your conventions. It is not a statement that you have come to through factual analysis of the situation.

The idea that feeding children or limiting attacks to combatants and such help promote the genocide of Israel is utterly absurd.

The only thing that keeps it at “wanting” and not “doing” are Israel’s actions to prevent it.

…like keeping thousands of Palestinians locked up without trial or charge for years before October 7th? Illegally occupying Gaza and the West Bank?

Israel has a well documented history of human rights abuses against the Palestinian people that goes back decades. Some examples:

> Israeli torture in the occupied territories refers to the use of torture and systematic degrading practices on Palestinians detained by Israeli forces in both the West Bank and Gaza Strip. The practice, routine for decades, was eventually reviewed by the Supreme Court of Israel in 1999, which found that "coercive interrogation" of Palestinians had been widespread, and deemed it unlawful, though permissible in certain cases. Torture is also practiced by the Palestinian authorities in the West...

Israel’s actions before October the 7th didn’t “prevent genocide”. It was cruel, it was inhumane, and it violated international humanitarian law.

I think this thread has drifted into a general Gaza thread. Probably inevitable, but just noting that we seem to have stopped talking about Democratic leadership (not the DNC, specifically, as already pointed out).

**Moderating:**

Very much so. Since polite moderator notes don’t seem to work, I’m going to put my foot down. I’m asking the OP, @Velocity if they feel if there’s any more worthwhile discussion to be had on the actual OP. If not, the next time we go for an extended exchange on the origins of the conflict, or the justifications thereof without useful mention of the OP’s direct question:

> [@Velocity](#):
>
> Anyway, that’s not my point - my point is, **what does the DNC think Gazans need to do, that they are not currently doing (or suffering?)**

I will close this thread completely, though I will move it to the Pit if @Velocity asks - please PM me about the continuation of the thread. Otherwise, a last reminder, if you don’t want to use one of the existing threads on the subject, _spin off_ your own thread to go over this ground again.

**Update** - I’ve spoken with the OP, and they agree that the conversation on the actual OP is unrecoverable. I will note that it’s been over 30 posts since the DNC has been mentioned at all. As such, this thread will remain closed.
