Why would you want to post in a thread started by someone on your ignore list? You put them on ignore for a reason, why would you join a thread they started? Everyone is going to be discussing the stupid remarks that you know are just going to infuriate you.
And if you’re going to read a thread started by someone on your ignore list, well then you are definitely doing so at your own risk. If the Mod comes in and tells you that your remark was defined as off-topic by the OP, well then just suck it up and move on, or else just say “sorry, I’ll shut up now”. But for goodness’ sake, don’t try to explain why you didn’t read the OP.
And if you violate the board rule about not identifying who you have on ignore, and get called on it by a mod, starting a thread in ATMB to discuss the topic will not help.
All you’ve done is flagged the conversation and the remark where you violated the board rule, giving it more attention, and repeated the infraction. :smack:
I don’t think we need a board rule to cover this, but perhaps you need a personal rule.
I’ve looked on the control panel and I can’t figure out how to get private messages from the control panel. Have you had a chance to see if you could figure it out?
leander was reasonably criticizing a group of people which by previous remarks had Una as a member. This is a somewhat popular way to insult people indirectly, but is not making any statement explicitly about Una. Given that it’s not an unreasonable statement like “All Jews are dirty money-grubbing thieves”, it sounds like perfectly fair criticism.
I still was shocked that such a comment was directed at a poster of Una’s stature, but then I also was shocked to hear about the length of Una’s ignore list. I personally find it impossible to ignore people just for being obnoxious; it just too often leads to missing important parts of conversations.
Allow me to illuminate you - while my Ignore list is very long, more than half the people on it are “BANNED”, and perhaps 1/3 of the them no longer post on this message board. I seem to have a knack for picking those who aren’t going to have a meeting of the minds with this message board.
I never Ignore any post in Comments on Cecil’s Columns nor Comments on Staff Reports. And I don’t Ignore any post where it’s in a GQ thread where I honestly feel I can help someone out. Helping people out is good.
I wanted to post this earlier but there was an admonition earlier to keep the thread on topic. But if people are going to keep bringing this up days or weeks afterwards, then I feel I have a right to say my side in a manner in accordance with the ATMB Rules.
I’m not going to address this any more in this thread.
