What do I do with sardines?

I love this recipe:

Spaghetti with sardines, dill and fried capers

That looks really good! Might be good with tuna, too. Love the toasted breadcrumbs.

Similar to what I was thinking. Puree them in a food processor/blender with olive oil, basil, oregano, garlic, vinegar and make a salad dressing out of it. It’d be similar to a true caesar salad dressing. Yummy!

Or, put them on nice crackers with sliced gruyere and a dollop of dijon mustard. I do this with smoked oysters and it’s a really good snack.

I make a breakfast spread out of sardines, a kind of fresh cheese we get up in the frozen northland called quark, some mayo, salt, a few shakes of hot sauce and maybe some lemon juice. It’s great on bread.
2 cans sardines
375 g package of quark
125 g light cream cheese*
2 Tbsp mayo
juice of a half lemon
a few shakes of hot sauce (to taste)
Mash the whole together

*We used to get 5% bf quark in 500 g containers, now it is .25% and I add cream cheese for a bit of fat.

What can’t you do with them?

Seriously, though…I just eat them out of the tin, but much of what has already been suggested here is great advice. On crackers is second best, and I must try mixed up with Sriracha someday,

Toast some bread under a grill on one side, turn over and apply sardines and grill (broil) until hot and slightly caramelised.

Google suggests otherwise, e.g.: Quality dairy food products and inspiration for chefs and bakers | Debic

If you don’t particularly like them and they’re within their “use by” date, you could give them to a local food bank.
