I thought Goofy was a widower? He has a son (Max), but no wife in sight.

Mickey’s troubled life.
Mickey’s troubled life.

There was hope for Goofy’s condition as long as stem cell research continued.
While Mickey became quite bitter and spend much of his immense wealth to sponsor research in Bolivia, Goofy remains upbeat and confident. As remarked above, the only comment he will make to the press is “Garwsh.”

> Well, the way I see it, Donald is Everyman too, but fate has thrown a curveball at him. He’s oppressed…by society and the world itself. His attempts at happiness are thrown back at him, and he’s doomed to do nothing but bemoan, with incoherant, impotent rage, his contempt for the uncaring, hateful world.

Fate threw nothing. Donald brings everything on himself. He’s greedy, selfish, tempermental, and an extreme sadist. For example, he always has problems with Chip & Dale, because he chooses to be cruel to them. When Mickey found found that Chip & Dale were living in his Christmas tree, did he get upset? No. He just laughed heartily, glad to have more company over for Christmas Eve. Had the same thing happened to Donald, he would have tried rip their heads off, destroying the tree in the process, and ruining his own Christmas.

He’s also the most hilarious of the Mickey, Goofy, Donald trio.

The relationship between Goofy, Mickey and Minnie is described by the Mouses as “Very Good Friends”. Strangely enough, even if he is not in hospital Goofy is “unavailable for comment” when this question is asked.

The “Not crazy, fucking Goofy” remark is considered to be a cruel joke. It is sometimes said to be told to Mickey’s attorney, sometimes to his psychiatrist.
The statement is attributed to Donald Duck during his decline and fall in the comedy circuit, working the Sands at Las Vegas.
Donald’s fall was complete when having ingested “some dangerous chemicals” he collapsed on a stage in a Village comedy bar, mumbling about fellaio, “that damn rodent” and “duck lips”.

Goofy’s wife appeared in some of the old short cartoons about Goofy. I don’t believe her face was ever shown, but I remember her as being something of a babe – great legs! One might wonder what she was doing with that dumb dog, especially since she was apparently human. The only answer seems to be that she was fu…

It was the comics, IMO, that really revealed what they did. Mickey was often a crime solver. There was a period when he aided the police in their struggle vs. a master criminal known as the Phantom Blot. Donald, OTOH, was the perennial nare do well: couldn’t hold down a job; schemes always failed, etc. Most of my favorite comic stories involved Donald, his Uncle Scrooge and his nephews, Hugy, Dewy, and Louie. And I don’t blame Donald a bit for trying to kill Chip and Dale. They were soooo lame!

It annoys me that Mickey always gets the lions share of the attention, adulation, etc. He’s usually center stage, while Donald is seen only in the context of being “Mickey’s pal”. Esp considering that in the comics of my youth, the two didn’t even know each other!

Huey once muttered, “Will no one rid me of this truculent prie…er, Uncle?”
He may be misquoting Richard concerning Thomas Beckett, but the reference is thought to be in relation to current events and Boston.

You do the duck wrong. You do the duck very wrong. Tell me, who does Humphrey the bear torment? Donald. Who do Chip and Dale torment and harass? Donald. Who has to wrestle an ill tempered ostrich? Who has to put up with three nephews who disrupt his daily life? Who’s job at a construction site is threatened by Pete as his evil boss? Who dreams of Nazis? Donald, Donald, Donald and Donald. In the Scrooge McDuck comics, who always gets kidnapped by the ghost of Conquistadors, grabbed by harpies when he’s looking for the golden fleece, kidnapped by Vikings disguised as foreign spies, and forced to marry long-ago dehydrated princes? Why, Donald again!

I’m not saying the Duck is a saint. He has a short temper and is probably a secret alcoholic, but to call him “greedy, selfish, tempermental, and an extreme sadist.” is a bit much.

Well, maybe not.

Usually his predicament comes from making a bad situation worse; but the situation does get bad by itself first.

I recently got the dvd collection of the color Mickey Mouse cartoons.

Mickey seems to have trouble keeping a job.

Some of the jobs Mickey has tried include

A concert band master
A ghost hunter
The host of a radio variety show
A talior
A fireman

Donald tries to destroy Mickey’s authority in The Band Concert but works with Mickey and Goofy as a ghost hunter and fireman.

When the audience boos Donald on Mickeys radio show he pulls out a machine guns and blasts away at the audience before the big hook takes him off the stage.

See my post about the “dangerous chemicals”.
The obsessive-compulsive duck obviously has a love-hate relationship with Mickey.
