What do roommates and live in couples fight about?

A friend of mine lived with a roommate when we were all in our mid-20s. A pretty major fight broke out because the roommate had apparently been collecting money from my friend to pay the phone bill and then not actually paying it. This was discovered, of course, when the service was cut off.

I was baffled at why anyone would pull such a ridiculous, certain to be discovered, scam. Yet nobody to whom I told the story (my parents and other friends, all of whom had lived with roommates at some point) seemed especially surprised.

Uh, I actually heard about an even worse situation - where one roommate paid the other rent, and Roomie #2 was…not paying the management company. Roomie #1 didn’t even know until they got a summons, and then proceeded to FREAK OUT. The management company was very understanding, thankfully, when she showed them her old checks/bank statements (they dropped her from the suit). Roomie #1 was taken to court by both parties, and eventually Roomie #2 got most of her money. It was absurd.

The wildest part is that she wasn’t even stealing it for drugs!

I get mad at my wife for eating food.

That sounds crazy, let me give you an example:

PKK: I really like apples, do you?
Wife: No, I don’t like them at all.
PKK: Okay, well, I’m just going to buy two for myself since you aren’t going to eat them.

2 days later

PKK: Hey wife, where are my apples?
Wife: Oh I woke up in the middle of the night and was hungry so I ate one, then had the other for lunch this afternoon.
PKK: But you said you don’t even like apples…

This happens at least once a week. I’m fine with her eating them, but if she would just admit she wanted them, I would buy twice as many so there’s enough for both of us.
