What ethnicity is **Unintentionally Blank** being centric about? American is not an ethnicity, in case **jjimm** ’s assumption goes there. Besides, this is not a political thread. It’s a light-hearted inquiry about what to call a decade. ---

Hee hee, “Naughties”. That’s my personal favorite. I remember back around the turn of the century someone did a commentary on NPR about this subject, and one thing they said was that, whatever we decided to call it, in order for it to be taken seriously, it would have to pass the following test: imagine Dan Rather saying it on the evening news. I just about lost it thinking about him saying “naughties”. 😃 ---

It seems to me that people refer to this decade as “the new millenium”. As in, “The new millenium really sucks”. Or, “I haven’t gotten laid in the new millenium”. When 2011 gets here, the millenium won’t be new any more, so we can move on to something else. ---

The best suggestion I’ve heard for the current decade — I think it was on this board, but I don’t remember who said it — was the “twenniyos.” ---

mmm, 1900’s were referred to as the nineteen hundreds. 1910-1919: nineteen tens twenties thirties and so on and so on. maybe we can call 2000- 2009 the twenty hundreds? 🙂 ---

My official prediction is that this decade will never have a name. It will be written as _2000-2009_, or as the unpronouncable _'00s_. This will vex the living daylights out of radio DJs in 20 years, and they’ll complain about it, but nothing will ever get adopted. ---
