I’ve always called it weed. I’m Gen X and the word pot seemed old timey to me in the 80s.

Back in the late 80s, there was a commercial for Mott’s Apple Sauce that had a kid dealing it like it was drugs. So, we used to call it “Mott’s”.

In my youth we called it _grass_, _pot_ or _weed_. We er…_They_ smoked _joints, doobies, pipes_ or _bongs_. Good weed was often referred to by strain or type (e.g. Acapulco Gold, Panama Red, sinsemilla, etc.) That was pretty much the extent of our terminology and knowledge.
These days I’ve notice young marijuana aficionados get much more in depth and specific in terminology since more options are now available from dispensaries and even on the street. Common terms bantered about include: sativa, indica, hybrid, vape, bud, flower, kief, shake, shatter, edibles, transdermal, tincture and more.
Some young partakers of Mary Jane discuss and are quite knowledgeable about the vast number of flower strains now available (e.g. _“dude, mixing Confetti Kush Cake with 9 Pound Hammer and Gorilla Glue #4 gives you a righteous head-buzz.”_). Some can even spout the exact THC concentration of each strain—much higher than was available in our er…_your_ day (assuming you’re old).

What do you call the person you get marijuana from?
In legal states, we go to the dispensary or dispo where we interact with a budtender.
Black market purchases used to involve a dealer or friend. Now kids talk about their plug.

Yes, “budtender at the dispensary.” They know their products well. My youngest kid wants to become a budtender when she turns 21.
