I think non-native residents should be called Sandwiches.

Maine people we called nards, short for Mainard (this is when we lived in Maine, the lobster guy we hung with called tourists “Goat roppers”, don’t know where that came from).
Mass drivers just after they go from the far left lane to the exit, cutting you off, at about 80mph are called “Massholes” as previously noted.
I will always be a “masshole” ☹ , my son a “nard” 🆒 .

I am sorry I’m not her. I do like to think I’m lovely, though.

>
> That cite somebody posted listed the official resident name as Connecticuter…I have never in my life heard this term. I will be sure and ask everybody I know what they call us, and see if anyone comes up with it.

I’m a **Connecticutian** born and bred, from a family of natives, all decidedly _not_ New York oriented, and have never heard the term ‘Connecticuter’ used as any sort of official resident name. Neither Connecticutite or Connectican, for that matter, and honestly, I seemed to have missed Connecticunt, too.

OK, let’s settle this Connecticut thing once and for all … with Googlefight!

Connectican = 75 results
Connecticunt = 271 results
Connecticuter = 757 results
Connecticutian = 608 results
Connecticutite = 121 results
Nutmegger = 5,020 results

Nutmegger wins by a mile! Too bad no one outside of your state is ever going to use it.

I will back up Nutmegger. I’ve actually heard that used before, and as previously stated, I’m from Indiana.

And as for the "official"cite earlier, nobody in their right mind will ever use Indianan, few will probably ever even heard of it before. We’re Hoosiers, whether or not (definitely not, in my case) root for IU.

> What about Utah? Utan’s perhaps?

**Utahn** doesn’t look right, but it’s what the newspapers out there use. I kinda like it. It’s different – looks like it needs to buy another vowel.

The best word for someone from New Jersey I’ve heard was **Jerseyman** , used by Ambrose Bierce a century ago. Only now it would be taken as sexist. “Jerseyperson” hasn’t got the same ring.

The only decent designation I’ve heard for Massachusetts is to drop the state name altogether and use **Bay Stater**. (That suggests “Garden Stater” as a non-sexist New Jersey native)

Didn’t we just have this discussion a couple of months ago?

Utah is “Utahn” Say YOO-tawn.

Best city residence name I’ve run across was when I lived up in Bellingham, WA. I was told residents were Bellinghamsters.

You heard that yet, **Johnny L.A.**???

Here in Huntington Beach, residents are often called “Sons of Beaches.” At least I think that’s what was yelled at me the other day…
