What do you do at an all-inclusive Caribbean resort if there's no sun?

Go to Santo Domingo, lots of fascinating history, Columbus’ first house, great little cafes, big city square, huge mall, ok beaches.

Dominican Republic; my accidental country. Still not sure how I ended up in a country not of my choosing, but I had a great time. I’d even do it on purpose.

I think you are totally screwed. So badly, in fact, that you shouldn’t go. Why, I’m such a nice guy that I would be happy to take those tickets off you since you won’t be needing them and shouldn’t go, anyway.

Lightning storms can be awesome if you have the view

After a couple day’s travel downwind from the DR, the prevailing winds and weather over here in Cayman have never given us a total washout in the years I’ve lived here unless there is a tropical storm system. Partly cloudy is the norm. My bet is on decent weather, with daily brief (and intense!) rain possible.

I’m not seeing anything on the satellite to make me think otherwise as of now. There is a trough to the west that sometimes brings weather down from the GOM, but it looks like it is already pulling back north.

Hoping for the best. Plan for the rain - sign up for a scuba class. It’snot the Caribbean’s best, but it’s ok and if you are going to be wet anyway, why not?

The Catalonia Royal Bavaro’s “all inclusive details”:

shows:

Daily program of day and nighttime activities
Merengue and native painting
Free internet connection (Wi-Fi) throughout the hotel

These kinds of places generally have bad weather contingency plans featuring a ramping up of the indoor stuff – lessons, cultural programs, games, trivia contests, etc. They don’t want their guests moping around in their rooms, drunk and disappointed.

PS- Its been a Very long time since I’ve been on vacation, rain or shine. Can’t help but be jealous.

Yeah, I was gonna suggest snorkeling or scuba diving until the whole lightning topic came up.

When I stayed at a Punta Cana all-inclusive for a week it rained several times.

But each downpour was surprisingly brief and the sun always shone afterwards.
mmm

Yeah, if it’s literally still a week away i wouldn’t be too concerned. Forecasting that far in advance is a chancy business. Odds are decent it won’t be that bad, it might even miss you entirely.
