I usually eat out with one of my co-workers, but I often eat out alone or just fix some left overs at home. I’d say 3/5 days eating with someone, and 2 not, on average. ---

I have an hour on average. I usually bring a sandwich or leftovers. Once in a while I go out. We recently moved into a new, nice office building and there is a bike path nearby that leads thru a quiet neighborhood, so I have been doing a 30 minute run with a 10 minute cool-down pushing weights in our gym - there is also a shower. Then I go back and eat at my desk. That is, unless someone schedules a lunchtime meeting. ---

Half the time I bring a frozen dinner or sandwich from home and eat it in the break room. The other half of the time I like to drive out to an interesting ethnic restaurant and sample something unusual. Since I cook a lot of Italian and American food at dinnertime, I usually go out and eat something Asian at lunch. It varies among Japanese, Vietnamese, Indian and Korean. ---

I work at our largest client’s site, and lunches are provided. The cuisine is varied and always tasty. I usually spend my time reading. ---

What is this “lunch break” you speak of? I usually nuke a frozen meal and either do charts, call back patients, or surf the net a bit (on those days where I am lucky enough to have a break between patients). ---

On work days – I get an hour for lunch. Sometimes I workout instead of eat. I eat whatever I brought on my breaks. Other times I have lunch with or without my boyfriend if our schedules allow (we work in the same library). The lounge always has 2 local newspapers lying around. We do 7-Little Words and the crossword puzzle while we eat. Then we usually have about 30 minutes left to go for a walk. I love our walks. We give each other a quick kiss when we see a scooter. I know, silly. But it’s those little things that make me happy. ---

When I was working downtown I would go to one of the four or five places where I normally ate lunch and sit and read while eating. Then maybe an errand or a bit of shopping, or possibly more reading in the park. An hour didn’t seem to last very long somehow. Nowadays I walk to the kitchen, fix myself a sandwich, and switch on the TV while munching. Then I switch off the TV and go back to what I was doing before. ---

I go to an isolated and windowless cigar lounge in the building where I work. It’s usually empty, so I sit down on the same couch, order a sandwich and coffee. After finishing the sandwich, I motion the waitress behind the glass to serve my coffee and I plug in my earphones and listen to drone ambient music, fantasize about death, have my coffee, and smoke exactly three cigarettes over a period of 35 minutes. ---

Half the time I skip it for the overtime, and eat on the clock (I have a job at a desk, so I’m able to work while eating, even though eating at my desk is against company rules). If I do end up taking one, I spend it on my phone or reading in my car. ---

One hour. I make the 5 or so minutes trek to my car, drive 8 or so minutes to a fairly abandoned parking lot, park, leisure read and eat a breakfast bar and an apple, then head back to re-join 46 non-stop talkers for the remainder of the day. The break is priceless for this introvert! ---

I have to say, I love my lunch breaks. There are four of us that always get together to pay Euchre or a variation of Pitch (or setback, or smudge). It’s been ongoing for about 10 years now. We have the score book from the last 8 years or so. It’s a great way to make sure we take a lunch in our busy schedules. 🙂 ---

Sure, it’s convenient, but I think most people would be shocked at how much eating out really costs. I have a cafeteria in my building, and a regular lunch is around $6-$8. God help you if you get a salad where you pay by weight :eek:. I’m amazed at the people who buy a salad for over $8 that could be made at home for less than $1. Paying for lunch out should be the exception to an everyday lunch. It only takes the tiniest amount of preplanning.
