Skidmarks are a sign of internal hemorrhoids. Feces gets stuck around the sphincter muscle and normal wiping won’t get to it. A constipated stool is more likely to cause problems so a healthy diet helps. ---

I just wipe normally. Dark boxers don’t hurt either. ---

I have to use wet wipes to get completely clean or I do get at least minor skid marks. I don’t know why that is though. I don’t think it was a problem when I was younger but I can’t say for sure. I like the idea of a bide but a good wipe followed by aggressive use of a wet wipe wrapped around a 5 or 6 segments of folded, dry TP (gets squishy otherwise) seems to do a very thorough job. ---

I wipe normally, then use 2 or 3 sheets of tp moistened with witch hazel. ---

I think you’ll find that many skid marks can be more than poor anal hygiene, they often represent fart art at it’s finest. ---

I use Cottonelle brand that disintegrate pretty quickly (as I’ve seen from previous backups) If you use this technique with a normal lo-flo toilet, you will need to flush twice - once for the “load” and once for the paper. But since I had a power flush model installed, I can do it all in one flush even for monster loads. I swear you could stuff cow pies in there and it would push them through. I love that toilet. ---

I don’t usually get that, on rare occasions, I must bathe right afterwards, but I alwasy wear panty liners anyway, being female and all. ---

I check my tp! And if the tp isn’t doing it quick enough, I have flush-able wipes in my bathroom and carry them in my purse. I’m very anal (HAH) about having no shit-residue, ever. If you must know, I have a plump ass with a deep crack and I think it makes the cleaning process a bit more intensive. ---

I’ve only run into that problem if I wear my underwear more than a couple days. Or if I’m having IBS trouble. And, of course, if you have hemoroids, it’s a bit hard to wipe with proper vigor. Though I’d expect those people who require you to use only 3 squares of toilet paper are the most likely to run into this problem. ---

I’m not debating this I’m merely passing on information pun alert. You can get inflamed hemorrhoids outside and inside. If you’ve had them before you’ll understand. Skidmarks would be a function of material that doesn’t full evacuate the sphincter muscle. You would have to go digging, thus the advice to consume fiber so waste doesn’t get impacted and harder to pass. ---

Even assuming you have toilet paper that is soft enough not to be abrasive, but strong enough not to fall apart, people with hairy and/or fat asses have extra obstacle to overcome. Really, wet wipes would be much easier and more effective, though they might be cost prohibitive and I have no idea whether they are hell on septic systems. ---

I use wet wipes (or damp paper towels in emergencies) to get clean, otherwise I would probably get skidmarks. I have hemorrhoids, and scars from anal fissures, and damage from prolapses. Oh, and IBS and wind. Fecal material gets trapped in folds in the sphincter, and later wind events can force the fecal material out. Thus, skidmarks. To get the trapped material I have to dig in with the paper, and that takes something damp and strong to prevent tear-through. Fortunately, at work we have self-contained cubicles with sink and paper towels, so I can deal with things if I have to.
