What do you do with your (used) cooking grease?

A question I had myself, and that I can’t answer. I asked a few people about it and the thought was, birds won’t consume fat from fowl because it is one of their kind, unlike suet.

As the owner of a home graywater treatment system I would like to assure EVERYONE,EVERYWHERE that whatever goes in the drains that isn't water is precipitating at some point.Grease does not stay emulsified in dishsoap. If you have a septic system the only entries should be excreta and TP.

I have used fat from fowl on occasion, and for that matter duck fat is IMHO the crown jewel of all fats, the most flavorful by far, leaves bacon fat in the dust, no comparison.

Chicken fat, again I have used, it is of a different consistency when solid, more like thick mashed potatoes then a solid fat. The main reason that I stay away is because the taste is no where as good as the others, sometimes giving a off flavor.

He was asking about fat from fowl in bird feeding.I agree, chicken fat makes the best pilav.

Careful! Grease fires are bad…um’kay? :stuck_out_tongue:

Mmmm… Bacon soap.
I’m stockpiling mine to use for tallow candles when the Earth’s oil runs out.

Sauteeing onions (and/or celery, and/or mushrooms and/or bell peppers) for potato soup, or chowder.

Hey c’mon, what did I ever do to you

You’re yummy, and you know it.

I save some of the metal cans that kidney beans, etc, come in. At any given time, one will be in the back of the fridge. I’ll pour grease into it until it’s nearly full, then it goes out with the trash.

I wouldn’t use a glass jar, as some people say they do, because grease is best poured off when hot - you leave less grease behind that way - and hot grease will cause glass jars to shatter.

Oh my goodness! That reads just like an Onion article!

I hope they figure out what it is. I’d love to know!!
And I’m sorta flabbergasted that you all produce so much grease that this is an issue for you. Maybe I eat better than I thought! On the very rare occasions that I have produced some grease, I just let it cool in the pan a bit and then scrape it into the garbage.

I was wondering if anyone would catch that!

The flaw there is that there are a lot of birds that eat other birds. Maybe sparrows don’t, but I wonder if they can really differentiate between the sources of fat.
