What is the one food that you eat that your SO finds disgusting and vice versa? On my end –easy. I can hereby proclaim that, yes, I, really and truly actually consume and enjoy **SPAM**. My wife on the other hand finds this product to be the most unnatural creation that man has ever created. Despite my attempts to enlighten, she remains steadfast in her beliefs. As for hers –equally simple. She eats anchovies. If a gun were placed to my head and an anchovy set before me and the consumption of this most nastiest of nasties was the only thing that could save me, I’d take the bullet. Anyone else? ---

I don’t have an SO but after reading the Thread title I came in here to mention SPAM. None of my friends can fathom how I am able to eat it. I love it. ---

Kimchi. I love the stuff, but she…doesn’t. OTOH, she eats that canned raviolli stuff that’s for kids, which I think is an abomination. So I guess we’re even. ---

I love Limberger cheese, but an ex girlfriend wouldn’t allow it in the fridge. I don’t think our break up was Limberger-related, but I can’t rule it out completely. ---

Sushi. Mmmm. Also, there is a Lebanese dish consisting of raw ground meat which I quite like. My wife would not eat either at gunpoint. ---

Two items I love but my wife hates are stewed tomatoes and grits. Needless to say if I want either, I have to do the cooking. My wife will eat a lot of things I won’t, mostly from the vegetable family. Broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus, cabbage, brussel sprouts. And I will cook them for her too. She loves the way I cook cauliflower, I add a special ingredient that gives it a bit more flavor. ---

I love, love, love macaroni & corn with a ton of parmesan. For breakfast. **Mr. Mallard** claims it smells like barf.\* I don’t think his tastes are too abnormal but I don’t see how people can deliberately befoul toast with those horrible canned beans. \*It does not smell like barf. ---

I like anchovies and sardines and just about any kind of organ meat. My wife isn’t that much of a picky eater buck she can’t stand the really fishy stuff or strange meats. My wife, along with her father, is literally one of the foremost fancy cheese experts in the U.S. Most of the stuff, I can enjoy or tolerate but a couple of times they slipped me some cheese on a cracker and the only thing I could say is “Don’t EVER do that again.” ---

I like most kinds of sea food. When I was still married, my wife hated any kind of fish. She always loved green peppers, which I HATE. She would eat one like most people eat an apple then come over to me and want to kiss me. I’d hand her an oyster. 😃 ---

Vienna Sausages. I usually throw a couple cans in our food box when we go camping. They’re convenient when on a hike, and my kids love them. I admit I liked them more when I was a kid, but I think they are perfectly edible. My husband won’t even look at them and swears he gets ill feeling when we just open a can. ---

I love to eat Durian. Its a fruit from South East Asia. She says it stinks. It does, but it tastes great. She eats these dried sour plums that are absolutely foul. I spent 7 years in her native Taiwan and ate some pretty unusual things, but those plums, yeeck! Taiwan also has this black stuff that smells and looks a little like licorice, but its awful. ---

White Castle cheeseburgers. She tried them once, during a trip to New York, and found them repulsive. SHe can’t understand why I want them whenever I come home. ---

Onions. It’s a texture issue for her, and she won’t touch them. Whereas I have been known to eat them raw, like an apple. OTOH, she loves New England clam chowder, which I consider to be a war crime. Manhattan is the only way to go there. \ Mixed marriages are a challenge sometimes. 😃 ---

Egg salad; it’s specifically the smell that he hates. No matter how carefully I cook the eggs, there tends to be a sulfurous smell afterwards. If I’m going to eat an egg salad sandwich, I have to wait until his day off and make it for lunch so that he’s out of the house for hours, else I’ll hear an “Eww, what is that smell?” complaint. (I hate onions and rye bread. Can’t stomach them after a childhood vomiting incident involving them. Meanwhile, he loves both, and tangentially, caraway seeds. The smell of caraway seeds turns my stomach, but I’ll cook food for him with any or all of those ingredients in it. I’m also a vegetarian and he’s an omnivore, and I cook meat for him.) ---

I just feasted on a big plate of Spam and macaroni tonight, much to my housemate’s derision. Actually, everyone I know (with the exception of my ex-SO who turned me onto the stuff in the first place) makes fun of me for liking Spam. My mom said I stunk up her house for days when I made it on one of my visits back. I don’t know why people hate on it, it’s awesome. I also really enjoy anchovies as a pizza topping, but almost never get to eat them. My friends/housemate, parents, and ex-SO all hate them, and since I can’t eat a whole pizza by myself my anchovy consumption is limited to whenever I can get a personal pizza. Tasty salty little fish. ---

Like most of you, spam, anchovies (how I love pizza napolitana), organ meats (mm! chicken livers and onions!), other white trash comfort food (devilled ham, vienna sausage, etc). He’s also not big on grits or most seafood-- he’ll eat sushi if it’s there but mussels and squid on pizza is right out. A lot of things I absolutely relish are off the board except for special occasions (when he goes out of town it’s all spam musubi all the time). I’m trying to think of something he loves that I find disgusting. I can’t think of a thing. Either he’s a little narrow or I’m a libertine foodiepig. ---
