Kansas City BBQ Sauce. Damn it but I love that stuff.
An awful lot of nifty gifmos and gadgets that will be old news over there before they show up on our shelves.
A disgusting amount of DVDs I would love to own, but can’t afford to keep having posted down here.
And episodes of TV programs that are in sync with the seasons. (We often get Christmas specials in July!)

maybe they figure you celebrate it then, in tune with the seasons?
Well, I should have been more specific. I can find LOTS of tea, and much of it is drinkable. What I really wanted at the time, though, was Sainsbury’s Red Label tea, which I don’t believe is available anywhere outside the UK. However, you have inspired me to look for a UK import store in the KC area. I can get African, West African, Jamaican, Oriental/Asian, Indian, Mexican, Italian and Korean groceries here, but AFAIK, there’s no grocer devoted to English or UK imports. I did find a few promising leads, though: a Euro Market (which I didn’t know about) and the World Market (which I forgot about). Plus of course all the Indian grocers will probably have good tea.
Okay, I’m done with my self-hijack. Carry on.
Grits. I want grits!!
I have to get my friend to buy me those Quaker instant grits when he visits the US.
I WANT GRITS!!!
Eh? What’s standard elsewhere?
Tall, broad shouldered guys with American accents.

The ISO standard paper sizes are, well, standard. The most common paper size is A4 which is 210~297 mm (8.26x11.70"), pretty close to letter size.
Which reminds me, I miss three-ring binders. Most binders here are two-ring, which isn’t quite as secure.
A4 is “pretty close” to letter size, but that extra seven-tenths of an inch makes it impossible to copy onto 8.5 x 11 paper unless the writers were generous with their margins. It seems that wide margins are an American thing as well, because most of the A4 paper I’ve seen has been typed very, very close to the edge of the page. This is an all-fired annoyance in trying to photocopy International Standard sized paper onto American standard paper using a machine that can only comprehend American sizes…
Neopets plushies.
I hate y’all. Hate, hate, hate.
Well, not hate, but why can’t we get them down here ?
That’s what I wanna know.
I’m from the UK.
I want stuff that is cinnamon flavoured! I love cinnamon!
Seriously. Cinnamon rolls, cinnamon chewing-gum, cinnamon Altoids, anything. I love the taste of cinnamon. Being unfortunately British, I am reduced to chewing on sticks of cinnamon bark.
maple syrup. US or Canadian. Not that crap fake Aunt Jehmima stuff either
Really? I’m stunned. With all the kitchen supply and gourmet specialty stores in the Greater Boston area I would think I could turn something up pretty easily.
I miss: good and authentic Mexican food, brownies, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, the Howard Stern radio show (used to listen every morning during my commutes), and a few “guilty pleasure” tv shows (mostly old reruns and trashy talk shows) I also miss the vast wide open spaces and the quaint little quirks of rural and old-fashioned Americana like giant coffeepots, space-age architecture and old neon signs from the 50’s and 60’s.
Oh, and Target. The shopping experience in America is infinitely more pleasurable than in Germany. I can’t believe I ever complained about waiting in line in America…if I only knew how spoiled I was. The range of goods on offer also does not compare, shops close early and don’t open at all on Sunday (with the exception of the weeks before Christmess) and “friendly service” is a rare treat indeed. OTOH since I am less inclined to shop for leisure here I can devote more time to more worthwhile pursuits, like reading internet message boards.

Good Queer porn.
It’s too expensive to buy it on the internet, and it’s always in the wrong video format/DVD region.
Also, reeses peanut butter cups, ice cream with cookie dough in it, hot choc fudge sauce for ice cream, most of the breakfast cereal aisle, caramel apple cider from starbucks, etc.
