So my wife and I had taken a day off together for her to recover from her grandfather’s funeral, and we were sleeping a bit late. When she woke up, we talked about her taking a prenancy test, just cause we had an extra from the previous negative, and the timing seemed to line up. And it came back with a faint positive. So we immediately had to get another test, a different type and everything. This one came up pretty strongly positive. Now we’ve got doctor confirmation. So, as terrifying as this may sound, I’m going to be a dad. Man, if that isn’t the sign of the end of the world, I don’t know what is. I can’t wait to argue with my kid over who gets to play with the new toys. ---

OK, and was your reaction “no way” lilke my Middlebro’s, or was it more logical? I’m still trying to find out why so many men find the notion of “I got the wife preggers through the same method people have been using for thousands of generations” kind of unbelievable, seems to be quite common. My wife and I waited until we were “ready” to have a baby. People used to always tell us that if we waited until we were ready, we’d never have a child. They were right, but not in the way they meant. All the wonderful thing are so much greater than the painful things. My capacity for love increased after my daughter was born. I also love my wife more than ever. 9 months in, FWIW. Congrats and best wishes. ---

We were just start to try, so it’s not unplanned. And I’ve made myself feel more relaxed by remembering lots of people in lots worse situations have kids and everything turns out fine. Also, one of our friends also just found out she was pregnant, but she’s 19 and a high-school dropout. So we’re doing pretty good. ---

Read some of the parenting threads here. We are 17 months in and just today my husband and I were instant messaging about how amazing our daughter is. No, it wasn’t on purpose that today she learned to spit. Just wait until the day you look at the shiny new toy for you and think “No, I need to get BabyX that tricycle” Nothing is better than getting your kid a toy. (Hint, the box will be enjoyed more) It’s been nice knowing you. 🙂 Yer gonna be a goner. ---

I hope this thread isn’t too old to resurrect, but just wait until he gets old enough to play with really cool toys like videogames and the like. I can’t tell you how much fun I had over Christmas with my “present” to my seven-year-old nephew.
