Really good watermelon I prefer plain, but average watermelon gets a boost with a little salt. ---

Count me in with the pepper on cottage cheese contingent. For me, cottage cheese is a savory, not a sweet. I don’t understand eating it with fruit. I use salt within, I guess you could say, “normal” limits. Not pepper. There rarely is too much pepper. Like @pulykamell, love it on cream cheese and bagels. When I make pumpkin bread I add in a 1/4 tsp of a pepper blend I like. Pepper bounces nicely off the usual pumpkin spices added. Tomato soup? Pepper. Grilled cheese sandwich? Pepper. Corn on the cob? Salt and white pepper. ---

Freshly ground black pepper gets added to the milk-egg mixture when I make French toast. That’s a trick I learned from my mother. I add a pinch of salt in the strawberries when making strawberry shortcake and the like. Not enough to make them taste salty, just enough to accentuate the flavor. ---

Salt on cantaloupe is similar to the classic combination of prosciutto with melon. The salty and sweet flavors complement each other. I made them a couple of times, and they’re really good. ---

As I child I noticed my mother always sprinkled pepper on her cantaloupe. So I tried it and like it. And to this day I sprinkle pepper on my cantaloupe. ---

I’ve always said my Dad would put salt on salt. Our eldest seems to have inherited that.
