Kinder Eggs!!! I love those things. I wish I could find a supplier down here. The last batch I bought had to be shipped from Canada, which supposedly isn’t really legal. WTF? Am I dealing in illegal eggs?
As for other splurges…
BOOKS!
I read fast, very fast. I can finish a 500 page novel in two days, less if I can’t put it down. Needless to say I need a very ample book budget. My husband teases me endlessly but I gotta read!
My husband has no room to talk anyway, considering how quickly he goes through computer/video games. At least my addiction is cheaper.
Non-fiction books, VHS and DVD movies, computer parts, and bike parts.
Regarding books, I spend a lot of time at B&N just sitting on their couches researching books, but never buying them. Instead, I write down the ISBN numbers, and purchase them on the net.
And the computer parts, it has to be the name brand shit. None of this Smart & Friendly or Hawking crap. And for the bike parts, I just buy parts even when I don’t need them. For some reason, I just like having them in my possession.
I can’t help it, I don’t think any part of my home computers are more than 6 months old except the floppy drives and cases. Neat electronics just call out to me in the night and I have trouble resisting their siren call.
Books, I love SpecFic, and try to build up my library until the bookshelves need to be replaced. Done that twice.
Oh, one more thing I splurg on…Role Playing Supplies! I pick up game systems like some people buy movies. Minatures (Need to get back into painting them), Modules (Read for ideas, never use the whole module though), maps (Cartography software), and dice…lots and lots of dice, my dice bag is probably rated as a lethal weapon.
Ah, That explains it. I thought the small parts might have something to do with it but I’ve never heard of that “inedible can’t be enclosed by edible” law. At least I have a steady supplier up North.
Thanks CheapBastid
It used to be books, but until the kids are bigger I’m just going to have to content myself with half an hour here and there with a library book.
I splurge on food. I must keep my spice shelf stocked at all times and there has to be stuff like roasted peppers and wasabi paste in the cupboard for me to be really happy.
I’m also a sucker for expensive soaps and bath stuff. (Although for the past few days my scent has been eau de Mr Bubble.)
We are also currently allowing ourselves the luxury of a real old-fashioned milkman. It’s kind of silly, really, since I go to the grocery store a couple of times a week, but I just love hearing that quiet knock at the door early on Tuesday mornings and going out to find our stash of Alta Dena on the front porch.
I haven’t gotten into the truly expensive ones yet, mostly because I don’t know where to start. If you’re in Boston, what is a decent liquor store to buy these from? I suspect the turnover rate isn’t high on the expensive stuff, so I am worried they haven’t been stored all that well.
Recommendations are welcome.
BTW: I think I have one of those little goats somewhere.
That is really weird, since I know I’ve seen them selling the far inferior Nestle Balls (don’t know the proper name, but they were a chocolate ball that completely covered a toy suprize) in the States when I last lived there. This was at Walgreens, too, not some specialty store.
People, I think we need to write our Congress People over this one! I’d offer to mail them to everybody, but this time of year they’d probably melt…try and catch me in a good mood around Christmas, okay?
Easy books and coffee. I’d splurge on chocolate too except it’s hard to get good or even average chocolate here in the boonies. Plus, I don’t think my waistline would appreciate it.

That’s about the rate I read. And, I have discovered Half.com. Save time and blow more money than you ever thought possible without even setting foot in a store. They’re all used books, and you can search for any book you want. I bliss out just thinking about it. You can also get movies and CDs there. There was a period of time where I was getting at least one item from there in the mail every day. For weeks in a row. My roommates were scared. My sweetie wanted to put me in a straightjacket where I couldn’t reach my credit card.
Then again, he’s blown wads and wads more cash than me on role-playing game stuff, and he used to play paintball. He has a $500+ paintball gun. That’s not even talking accessories here, folks. It’s alarming the amount of money a hobby like that can absorb.
We buy way too much stuff – what happens when we’re DINKs (double-income no kids)… for a long time we were YIDdies (Yuppies In Denial)…
