Some people consider us an interracial, same-sex couple (I’m Jewish-American and he’s Persian-American). We do get stares, but it’s mostly because he’s so friggin’ tall and hot. But we do have interracial couples as neighbors, and nobody cares. ---

I can’t remember the last time I had enough spare time or mental energy to think about them at all. I’ve got enough crap of my own to deal with; why would I bother with what other people are doing? ---

I usually notice and it and it kind of makes me happy for some reason. I have known a lot of interracial couples, including my sister and my BIL (well, not entirely sure they count, since he is bi-racial - together they are at least 3/4 white WASP). ---

Complete indifference. Whereas if I was to see a gay couple holding hands (for example), I’d think ‘Hey, good for you.’ So clearly my brain makes a different connection there. ---

If I’m sure they’re a couple, then meh. If they’re at least somewhat standoffish with each other (which about half of couples are anyway,) then I admit I do look a bit, wondering if they are a couple or just friends, which I don’t do with same-race pairs of people. ---

I’m half of one. Mainly Indian people and Chinese people stare at us. Chinese people less so. Indian people love to stare, without smiling, without blinking. It’s creepy, though I understand it more so than he. ---

Usually “meh, just another couple”, but sometimes it can stand out. A while ago I was on a train in the Netherlands. A family came in, very very blond woman, very very dark man, three pretty kids. The man and the woman both had big dread locks and were very tall and good looking. Then I heard them speak: they spoke Frisian, a rare language from the north of the Netherlands. And he spoke with a thick Jamaican-sounding accent! I have to admit that that did make me think: “Yay! Cross-cultural awesomeness!” ---

It was an Indian family, very dark, with two adorable little girls. We were in Montreal, so it wasn’t a total surprise when they started talking in French, but you should have heard these cute little Indian girls chattering away in flawless French! ---

Half an interracial couple here, in rural Canada, and people are MEAN about it. People openly stare–one time a white couple in the mall actually turned to stare at us while we walked by–and people have yelled “CHINK” at my Vietnamese fiance. ---

Oh how awful, apollonia! I admit I am curious about them and their lives, but I tend to wonder and be curious about everyone who crosses my field of vision, no matter what their hue. I just wonder about their lives, if it’s been easy, hard, full of acceptance and love or otherwise. I wish them the best. I do have a number of casual friends who are interracial, including one black woman/white man pair, so I have heard some of their experiences. ---

People apparently don’t want to risk confrontation because I got yelled at from cars a lot. It was usually shit like “Lose the Asian guy!” One time near Foggy Bottom a woman (yes, a woman) leaned out her window and said “Asian guys suck!” I throw rocks now. ---
