I think it’s the supposed cutsy-ness of it; I don’t know, but it makes me want to puke. This is an older thread, I see, but I have just now decided I’ve seen enough of this overused expression to make me want to research to find some way to lash out at anyone using it. ---

Detest it. Of course most things pregnancy related make me squirm, and not in a good way. There’s a reason I’m childless… ---

This thread was started before I got pregnant. Now, I’m nearly 7 months pregnant and have a cute baby bump. I like the phrase! What else would I call it - pregnancy protuberance? ---

Baby bump is mildly annoying, but this is the first time I’ve ever heard “push present.” Good god, does that mean what I think it does? As in, ‘the baby is a present we made by pushing our naughty bits together?’ Christ, that’s the tackiest thing I’ve heard all year! ---

I hate ALL these terms almost as much as I hate the assumption on the part of what seems like most of the population that once it’s obvious a woman is pregnant, it’s automatically just fine to make comments about her body that would have been offensive a few months earlier. ---

I was almost 7 months pregnant when the thread was in its first incarnation, and too shy to say pretty much exactly this. I loved my baby bump, even when it was a baby mountain 😃 (and congrats, by the way!) ---

“Baby bump” is a bit too cutesy for my taste. “We’re pregnant” is worse. “Preggers” makes me want to strangle the person using it. “Push present” is new to me, but I already don’t like it. And “preggo” makes me want to ask “So, she’s a waffle?” ---

(It’s already been covered that that’s not what push present means, so I’ll just say) how about “sex trophy”? I like that one because it’s supposed to be mildly offensively funny, not cute. Anyway, what is with the “what else could you call it?” comments about “baby bumps”? How did people ever get by before that annoying term was invented? And yes, push present, as a term and as a concept, is repulsive. I seriously can’t imagine not hating anyone who would say that. ---

Now this one will probably not get any agreement because I’ve never heard anyone else be irked by this, but I find it a little bit gross when people tell you things like, “You sure made a beautiful baby.” A bunch of people said that kind of thing to me. Plus I was barely 18 and like my daughter’s dad’s creepy 50-year-old uncle said it to me. I mean, it’s no “push present” by any means, but I just think it’s a little bit creepy. Just say the baby is beautiful, and leave the talk about how it was made out of it. ---

I dislike the term and really dislike its kindred terms ‘baby-daddy’ and ‘baby-mama’. ---

IMO, it is contrived sounding and yes, thought up by some celebrity rag editor to sound cutesey and trendy. I think we should counter this by calling it a baby LUMP! ---
