What do your friends and relatives eat that you find to be just plain nasty?

My landlady’s son eats Chef Boyardee ravioli straight from the can, _without heating it_, like he’s a criminal on the lam or something.

Most of my friends and family seem to like asparagus. I wouldn’t call it “nasty”, exactly (the last time I tried some, I disliked it less than I used to), but it’s definitely not to my taste.

Agreed. I’m in the minority of people for whom it tastes like dish soap because of genetics.

In case there’s anyone who’s still unaware (and has missed the several [previous threads](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/why-does-cilantro-taste-like-soap/382598) discussing it), cilantro tastes bad/“soapy” to some people for genetic reasons.

My answer: I’ve always found the smell or taste of tea to be nasty, and I can’t understand why so many people like it.

It’s especially good if you crumble up some saltine crackers in it! (Although I haven’t had that snack in about 22 years).

For me, it’s mayo. Or Miracle Whip. Either one is just nasty.

Yeah, my 23andme report says I’m one of those people. I already knew that. I even hate the smell. But it doesn’t taste like soap to me. It tastes the way your mouth tastes after you throw up.

I don’t find it “nasty”, but I’ve never liked watermelon all that much. It’s more a texture thing than anything else. It feels like a sponge to me. A wet, sweet sponge, with seeds in it.

I’m not sure I’d call it “dish soap”, but it definitely tastes like some sort of cleaning chemical to me.

Second the hate for bell pepper (even raw, I hate how they smell, let alone taste) and spicy-hot. The hopefully brief trend for “Flaming Hot” everything is IMO obnoxious, as hard as it can be in a convenience store to find snacks that aren’t in that category (and I’ve even heard of Flaming Hot _Mountain Dew_). Not everyone wants to eat pain!

Huh? You object to them using the counter as a temporary plate? What is objectionable about that? At least assuming they clean up their crumbs afterwards.

Now if you really mean they then stick their face in there and bite hunks off the bread laying there no-hands and thereby end up licking the countertops, well I’d think they’re kinda low-rent, but as long as they wash the counter afterwards, I have no objection living in the same house with them. At least not over that. Depends on how many other feral moves they have.

As referenced in some other thread, lima beans. I’ve reached the limit of my lifetime broccoli tolerance so that’s out now. Also coffee. Not all beer but a lot of beer has extra of whatever makes beer simply not taste good. The result is really nasty tasting beer.

There are a few foods I have never learned to like, despite trying repeatedly

Lima beans. Uch. I love many other types of beans, but not lima.

Beets. No matter how prepared.

Cauliflower. Even when disguised as pizza crust or rice or crackers, it’s still not to my taste.

Those are the big 3.
