We’re both big guys (he’s taller, I’m broader) with voices that can go suddenly high when we’re excited, letting out unfortunate throaty squeeks. My speaking voice is about a half octave lower than his. (I wonder if it’s a Detroit thing? Did/does George Peppard have a higher pitched voice?) ---

It’s normally quite low–somewhat rich-toned and strong (teacher voice, after all). Right now, I’m sick–so it’s gravelly, eyebrow-raisingly deep, and a touch painful, but at the same time, rather fun. Normally, my voice _is_ deep, but far from this fairly sultry, husky voice thing I’ve got going now. Maybe I should open up a 900 line, just for the duration of the virus… ---

Okay, I know there are a lot of people asking what others think they sound like, but you’ve piqued my curiosity. Who, or what, do I sound like? I don’t really do this too often, but there are a few posters that I “hear” distinctive voices for; **SwimmingRiddles** : very smart, and fairly sophisticated. Very mellow and poetic, almost. **Brunetter** : has a kind of melodic quality to her voice, and sexy as well. **Medea’s Child** : also a very melodic voice, and very sweet and kind. These are all that come to mind off the top of my head. ---

Silo, I always imagine that you sound just like Chris Penn (not _Footloose_-accent Chris Penn, more like _True Romance_-accent Chris Penn.) Of course, this is only because I always picture you as looking like a thinner Chris Penn! I tell you, though, I was delighted when I finally met Satan and he sounded _exactly_ like I thought he would! Any Dopers who have met me or talked to me on the phone can attest to the fact that I have a rather unappealing voice. I always think my voice sounds like I should be saying, “Duh!” all the time. I don’t know why–that’s just how I hear it! I’m not saying that my voice is rather deep for a female _but_ when I answer the phone after being awakened, people have mistaken me for my husband, my brother and my father (a bass singer)! And when on the phone at work, I get called “sir” on occasion! ---

**evilbeth** , I’ve been called “ma’am” on the phone more often than I care to remember. Of course, I’ve also been mistaken for my father and my brother, and I don’t think they sound a bit feminine. To judge from recordings, my voice is normally a _very_ soft, slightly husky tenor. However, I’ve sung everything from bass to alto–I just can’t do any of them consistently. **TopazAntares** , I’ve always imagined you as having sort of a misty contralto voice (with a higher laugh). **Falcon** , I _know_ what you sound like, so I won’t be much help. You do sound like a party sometimes, though 😃 Perversely, I’ve always heard sort of a light, slightly drawled, baritone for **Satan**. \ **Silent\_Bob** sounds like the sound of one hand clapping–quiet, but very deep 🙂 Sorry, **Saint Zero** , but you get the cartoon super-hero voice–sort of like the Tick, but saying intelligent things. **Gunslinger** inevitably sounds like Clint Eastwood. **PepperlandGirl** has a trace of a Liverpool accent in my mind–absorbed from her musical fascinations, no doubt. ---

I sound like Sean Connery. No, really, I do. Honest. Ask anyone who’s heard my voice: ChrisCTP, Globetrotter, Coldfire, ummm… that’s all, I think. Anyway, imagine Sean Connery, only not Scottish, and younger, and with a Kiwi accent. And that’s me. Only different. ---

I always think of Cecil sounding like James Earl Jones! Tater, I think of a happy,girly twang. not bubblegum-esque, but sugar coated none the less. Dropzone, Old before my time, eh? 😉 nah, I’m a DJ and can turn on the upbeat, lets go voice anytime I want, but I wouldnt know how to describe my normal voice! ---

I’ve been told (repeatedly and by people who have never met each other), that I sound _exactly_ like the narrator/host of a bunch of Dairy Queen commercials. The “treats & eats at Dairy Queen” ones, apparently. I can’t hear it myself, but every so often someone asks me if I’m that guy, or they tell me I sound like him. ---
