There is also the **SWAG** , which is a “Scientific Wild Ass Guess”, but you have to have a PHD to venture one. ---

**corndog man** : the best place for questons about SDMB slang and abbreviations is the ATMB forum. This question has been asked and answered numerous times and although you can’t run a search on WAG (because three letter words are too short), you can run a search on “acronyms” or “abbreviations” to find lots of similar threads. ---

I wonder if running such a broad search creates a larger server load than starting a new topic. I also wonder how much server load would be reduced if members would no longer create “holier than thou” posts like everton’s and leave the moderator’s job to those who are assigned to do it. ---

Possibly (as suggested by Wedgwood) a shortening of waghalter, applied playfully to a child or to a joker. But it may have originated from the verb in other ways.] † 1. A mischievous boy (often as a mother’s term of endearment to a baby boy); in wider application, a youth, young man, a ‘fellow’, ‘chap’. Obs. 2. ‘Any one ludicrously mischievous; a merry droll’ (J.); a habitual joker. (In early use often combined with sense 1.) Phrase, to play the wag. 3. to play (the) wag: to play truant. slang. Also, to hop the wag: see hop v.1 6 a. Are you “wagging” the SDMB?
