Point taken - I do recall an interview with a child actor on Leno - Jay asked him what his favorite film was and the kid said, “Jaws II.” Jay said, “What about Jaws one?”
The kid answered, “that was before my time.”
I guess it is all relative.

Keep in mind that I went to middle school in Southern California, where pop culture hits the end user before anywhere else. The cool kids all had spiked hair by the time I was in sixth grade (which is when I moved out here). I made the switch myself in 8th grade, as I was not very cool at the time. I’m sure the coolest of the cool had liberty spikes before 5th grade.
Oh, yeah, a European “WOOOOO!!!” guy maybe, but not an* American * “WOOOOO!!!” guy; that’s my point.
Talk shows (and their digest, Talk Soup)!

I read that and thought "Hmmm, the only association I make with that is… of course! :smack: "
What’s happened to her, btw?
And I just answered my own question-
“In December 2006, Lewinsky graduated with a master’s degree in Social Psychology from the London School of Economics[11] where she had been studying since September 2005.[12] Her thesis was entitled “In Search of the Impartial Juror: An exploration of the third person effect and pre-trial publicity.””
Not bad.
Body piercings and multiple tattoos. They existed before 1990 and they’re still with us, but the '90s are when they really came into vogue.
Computer-to-computer communication via phone lines was possible in 1969, but the Internet as such is not that old – see here.

Dangit, the software won’t let me post in all caps!
Let us not forget some of the cheesier 90’s stuff:
MC Hammer
Vanilla Ice
Billy Ray Cyrus
More TV shows:
Married With Children (spanned the late 80’s-early 90s)
The Wonder Years (ditto)
Roseanne
I think I’m a bit older. I distinctly remembered a period where guys took the Christian Slater style haircut to the next level with hair all the same length ending in a clearly defined “ledge”. Lot of guys in college had 90210 sideburns in the early 90s too.
Jeff Dahmer, Lorena Bobbitt, and Tonya Harding.
Ick.
What did Jeff Dahmer say to Lorena Bobbit?
“Are you going to eat that?”
Achy Breaky Heart Cyrus, of course, as opposed to Hannah Montana/Dancing With the Stars Cyrus.
If by nostalgia it doesn’t necessarily have to be a fond memory, how about those shorts women used to wear that were midthigh length, skintight, and had lacy bottoms like lingerie? I remember some standup comedian joking about this after the 1994 earthquake in L.A., when people were lining up to enter grocery stores for a few supplies–he said it was the end of the world, and women were out and about in their underwear. I didn’t much care for the style.
How about coffeehouses? Around where I live they’re almost all gone when there used to be five within an easy walk. Which reminds me, at the closing party of the one I frequented, they played Counting Crows the whole evening, another band I strongly associate with the early 90s.
If it ain’t Starbucks, it’s gone.
You know what I miss from the '90s? Nostalgia about the '70s! *
*Yes, even for that.
AOL
Prodigy
GEnie
(Again, ‘nostalgia’ not meaning ‘wonderful’, but just that they were there).
I don’t think it’s too early to be doing this. I’m not young at all, except at heart, yet I remember things seeming different 15 years ago, apart from myself, obviously.
Hell, I remember yesterday fondly.
The 90s did have some of the cheesiest dance music ever.
