My nic? Well, actually, it all started last Tuesday. I got up on time and hopped in the shower. After that, I started shaving, when I ‘zapped’ myself with a nic from my razor. Damn near felt like I pulled half my chin off. Anyway, I ended up doing the toilet-paper bandage thing, up until that fell off when I went to warm up my truck so I could get to work. Damn thing started bleeding again, and I got blood all over my lapel. Damned nics. Tripler Heh? What? Oh _that_ “nic”. It’s from _Doonesbury_. ---

**xayoz306** is a made up word that means coolness, I think. The origins came about at a wild kegger about 3 years ago. The 306 is my area code. ---

Mine is from an inside joke among the students (including me) who played basketball at lunch near the end of my freshman year (I’m a high school senior now), a group that included several players from the school’s team (I would be on the team the next year). A joke going around the school recently (at that time) was that a couple of kids who had a reputation as the school’s biggest (academically competent) stoners, would say “petis” loudly in the middle of a class, and teachers almost reprimanded them because it sounded like penis, and then realized that it wasn’t penis, it was petis. Made for some decent laughs. Anyway, one of these kids was a lunchtime basketball player too, and for a while he would yell “petis” whenever someone took a shot, to try to distract them. So someone else got back at him by yelling “fetus” in his ear when _he_ took a shot one day. Fetus became an inside joke of sorts on the basketball team for a year or two, and eventually I just kind of took it and used it in my own variation of jokes. It’s something people identify me with (not because I practice baby-like behavior–I don’t, btw, or someone would have told me by now) and I figure that as (afaik) the sole representative of my team here on the SDMB I should be something that represents the team as well as myself. ---

Gmork is the name of the wolf-like (was it actually a wolf?) creature who was ‘The Servant of the Nothing’ in the first _Neverending Story_ film. And the book, I’m sure - though I’ve been trying forever to find a copy of the book and can’t, so I havn’t read it. Anyway, I used to watch _Neverending Story_, along with things like _Labyrinth_ & _Watership Down_, over and over and over again until my family wanted to destroy the videos. But I never could watch the bit with Gmork. It terrified me 🙂 So I found all these videos again about a day before I joined the SMDB and watched them all in an ecstasy of nostalgia. When I noticed the Gmork part was coming up, I had to actually reject a small impulse to hide my eyes - some kind force of habit left over from when I was little. I found that amusing. Then when Gmork finally came on screen - I laughed at my former self until I cried. It was a terribly unrealistic puppet (hey, it was the 80’s) and so utterly un-scary. I was still amused enough by the time I needed a nickname to use it as such. And that’s the story! I didn’t realise it was going to be this long. Oh well. ---
