Sandra Battye is a minor character in Terry Pratchett’s (aka S.N. Faulkner) Night Watch. She is a needlewoman (as opposed to a “seamstress”). I used to make a living by sewing and designing clothes, primairliy dance costumes. ---

My actual last name is that of a place in north England, you know, the one with the grumpy Sheriff. My friends often called me Nott. As a lad, I read the dictionary, and I liked finding odd facts. When friends were asked stuff like, “What the Hell’s a Stirling Engine?”, they’d say, “I dunno, ask Nott!” And I’d know the answer. There was also that line JFK’s speech writer borrowed for his inauguration speech, “Ask not what your country can do for you…” ---
