In the end, doing weird and even creepy things with children is different than doing illegal and harmful things to them. I was just thinking about this regarding Tony Iommi, and the other members of the ersatz Black Sabbath who accepted (and fulfilled) the offer to play six shows at Sun City in South Africa while Apartheid was still in force, and while the country was subject to a widespread cultural boycott that did a lot to render Apartheid unpalatable to quite a few white South Africans. At the time, Iommi apparently claimed that he was told that Sun City wasn’t technically in South Africa (only true if one believes that [Bantustan nonsense](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bantustan)), and he basically said that he thought that fans of the band ought to be able to see them in concert, no matter the political situation, _and that music and politics need not have anything to do with one another_ (the usual excuse). With that said, years later in his autobiography he added that the promoter was black, and that the audience was multiracial, implying I suppose that he wouldn’t have done it otherwise. In any event, this put Geezer Butler off of rejoining the band at that time, and drummer Bev Bevan refused to go, so they replaced him with Terry Chimes, who, when with the Clash, had been referred to as “Tory Crimes” on a record sleeve, allegedly due to his political incompatibility with the rest of the band! I’d be inclined to forgive Iommi and the rest of the Sabs for that one, since, besides the factors I’ve already mentioned, they may have been in serious need of money. Nevertheless, how would I have felt at the time? ---

Not sure if “most” applies but the first one that popped to mind was Jenna Elfman. I always found her crazy hot but the Scientology thing bothers me. ---

Absolutely a vote for Alec Baldwin. That guy is an awful horrible person, and I’m a political conservative, so I hate his politics. But I’ll be the first to admit he is an incredibly talented actor. I love (and look forward to) his appearances on Saturday Night Live and Jack Donaghy is one of my favorite sitcom characters ever. ---

The Backstreet Boys. I was in upper elementary/middle school when they first became popular. I’m now 27 and I haven’t outgrown them. The one comfort I have is that when I confide this to similar-aged female colleagues, a fair number of them confess to also secretly still liking the Backstreet Boys, or get pissed off at me because they prefer 'N Sync. ---

I think Jenny McCarthy is hotter now than she was 20 years ago when she posed for playboy. Crazy and probably responsible for childrens deaths, but so god damn hot. ---

Patty Duke. She was so, so good in _The Miracle Worker_, and probably at the time (I was five years away from being born) looked like she had a brilliant career ahead, but instead ended up the staple of Lifetime TV movies, and not even the “good” ones of those. She did a barely second rate sitcom, that probably stayed on the air as long as it did, because in spite of the inane scripts, she gave remarkable performances, as two fully developed characters. Then she became a magnet for bad scripts, and either had the worst agent ever, or just has bad taste herself, but I watched most of those gawdawful TV movies, because you could still see just how much talent she has, and please, oh please can’t she get just one more good role? ---

If your definition of shakier includes pleading guilty to a charge of Unlawful Sexual Intercourse with a minor and also later settling a civil suit. I don’t think that there is much dispute that he drugged and forcibly raped a 13 year old girl. So yeah, shakier. ---

I have read and enjoyed a lot of Anne Perry’s mysteries. After I learned about her history, though, I started to be uncomfortable with the idea. I believe it is possible to be truly remorseful even if for the most terrible actions, and she was young at the time; but of all the careers she could have chosen, and all the genres within that career… ---

Sarah Silverman. A long time ago I saw her a few times on Jon Favreau’s old show _Dinner for Five_, and she came across as kind of a dick.
