# What event would make your profession obsolete?

True, although energy/transportation uses comprise [about 75%](http://www.eia.gov/tools/faqs/faq.cfm?id=41&t=6) of it. The rest goes to plastics and feedstocks, as well as charcoal/propane for your grill and wax for the birthday candles.

I think **drewtwo99** and I are pretty safe with our jobs in the oil bidness..

I’m an IT manager. An electromagnetic pulse that takes out the whole power grid would pretty much make computers, and me, useless.

I teach at a dropout recovery and prevention program that focuses on at-risk youth.

Some kind of complete overhaul of the standard education system that causes schools to consistently meet the educational and emotional needs of all children regardless of their socioeconomic status or exceptionalities, combined with an assessment system that is both rigorous, flexible, and fair, might put me out of a job.

It would be pretty cool to lose my job under those circumstances.
