Higher end menswear stores might call them waistcoats but it’s along the same lines as them selling braces instead of suspenders. They’re different names for the same garment and one is chiefly British. Unless you mean something archaic… ---

I think a vest could be a knitted thing that pulls over, whereas a waistcoat always buttons up. I agree on thehate for the huge 80’s glasses. My husband and I did the long distance thing for several months while we were engaged. The only nice picture he had to send with me was his senior portrait with the owl eyed glasses. I left that picture home. There was no way I was showing my friends _that_ picture of my sweetie. _shudder_ I would love to see more occasions for dressing up. I love looking nice but I hate getting weird looks when I wear something nicer than jeans and a t-shirt. I live in a rural area where the mommies don’t even compete with each other at the library story time and I wish I wore blinders to Wal-mart to block the horror. ---

Long skirts, and dresses with a pinched waist, and gauchos I like clothes that move and swirl as I walk. I still wear capes. I can’t bear how constrained I feel in a big bulky coat. And since the Celtling was born, I really appreciate the functionality of being able to wrap her underneath it comfortably. ---

I have to agree on the double-breasted suit thing. I have exactly the right build for them, and I think they’re far more visually pleasing than singles. Don’t get me started on that whole abomination that was three button suit trend. ---

There’s no law that says you have to wrangle cattle to wear that style of hat. Really it’s just an ideal summer hat that happens to be over associated with cowboy culture. It’s the hat most suited for summer, so screw the cowboys if they think they have some kind of trademark on it. ---

I wear what I want, when I want, where I want. I don’t worry about fashion, unless it affects the availibility of what I want to buy. It’s all about ME, baby! Seriously, I have received a lot of compliments on my hats, on my walking staff, on my ruana, on my outfits, on my purse…I just try to wear stuff that fits me, that I like, and that I think I look good in. ---

Where do some of you live? Miniskirts, off-shoulder sweatshirts, neon colors, fedoras, denim jackets?? All of these are very much alive and in style! I’m in Houston right now, wearing a denim mini and a Batman shirt, and once I go out I know I will see a zillion girls in miniskirts, it’s 90 degrees here! Capes were big this winter, although in Houston, winter doesn’t last long, so most people I know stuck with that 50’s greaser look, which I adore. I spent this winter in moto boots, leather jackets, little cashmere sweaters from thrift stores and buffalo plaid. My boyfriend wears his three piece suit occasionally when the place is right, and he looks fantastic. Go to more crap at the museum or see a play if you feel like you don’t have a reason to dress up, I feel like I have to get dressed up all the time just because we do lots of jumk in the art scene. Good excuse to doll up, and then you race off to your local dive bar afterwards dressed to the hilt! I agree with veiled hats for ladies. They are so delicate and gorgeous, but even at the trendiest places I hang out at, you would look like a huge asshole if you had one on. The big one I wish would come back for men are those white shirts they wore in Pride and Prejudice time, all wrapped up around the neck, so sexy. What are those called? They were in The Count of Monte Cristo and Vanity Fair as well. Smoking hot. I can’t imagine a guy in streetstyle pulling that off now, though. ---

I’ve always assumed these women were Muslim, as they had head coverings, as well, and they were black/African American. I really don’t care for such things, as these women also wore the same garments to work up a sweat on the other exercise machines, and wore the garments out in public, as well. I get the heebie jeebies just thinking about what goes in the swimming pool water anyway, I don’t like sweaty people in it, or regular streetwear in it. ---

Vintage-style swimsuits! By which I specifically mean the style that don’t necessitate a Brazilian wax, are entirely bum-covering, and don’t echo the style of your basic high-leg ladies knicker, though I certainly champion a return to all-round sturdiness. I trawled precisely a million and one shops this year, and whilst the colour and pattern and price and so on all varied hugely, the knicker lines were all exactly the same. I would’ve settled for the slightest lowering of the material, believe me, but they were all “Hi, I’m wolf-alice, and have you met my vagina?”. (actually, I eventually got a really flattering vintage-style one from Primark, of all places, where it was hidden beneath a heap of bumfloss neon, but being Primark it’ll probably _dissolve_ before 2010.
