Speaker Mike Johnson apparently doesn’t have a bank account, which is weird. [Now there’s news that Rep. Andy Ogles also doesn’t have an account](https://www.newschannel5.com/news/newschannel-5-investigates/revealed/he-doesnt-report-having-checking-or-savings-so-where-did-andy-ogles-get-320-000-for-campaign#:~:text=Andy%20Ogles%20speaks%20to%20supporters,report%20having%20a%20savings%20account.) (as well as maybe other weirdness). Is it a taxes thing? And if there are Democrats trying this thing I won’t be surprised (well, perhaps not this trick now that it’s getting attention).

Ogles seems like another Santos based on that article.

This was discussed some in Factual Questions:

[Is it possible to live in the US without a bank account?](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/is-it-possible-to-live-in-the-us-without-a-bank-account/992545)

The idea of required disclosure is to show the public who our elected officials take money from. So disclosure of a non-interest-bearing account is optional. The thread taught me that such accounts aren’t quite as rare, in the United States, as I had thought.

Most likely, they do have interest bearing accounts, and stocks and bonds, and are violating disclosure rules. If the House ethics committee wants, they can investigate. I don’t think it is a criminal matter, but would be glad to be corrected.
