My normal breakfast on commuting days is gruel (quick oats with enough water I can drink it when it’s done) with some zero-Calorie fake maple syrup. Yoghurt and Kashi sounds like a good change – although I’ll have to use both hands to eat it while I drive.

Which reminds me (and brings me back to the OP)… I’m always running out of fake maple syrup.

Black peppercorns. We recently bought the salt and peppermill set from Penzey’s and damned if we don’t go through a bag of the things every month. You just end up using fresh ground pepper on everything, it’s so good.

Other contenders include eggs, cheese (The new Whole Foods in the neighborhood is running a half off sale on burrata that is just unfair.), and lately, shrimp.

The #1 thing by a mile is freaking tomato sauce. The plain stuff that I make pasta sauce out of. Organic, Trader Joe’s.

There’s a running joke that he’s stealing it and hiding or tossing it somewhere because at least 50% of the time I reach for it, it’s just freaking _gone_. Inexplicable.

For him it’s whole wheat tortillas. Also fruit leather, though I buy the same small amount every other week or he’d eat it by the truckload.

For both of us, Rainier cherries.

Diet coke - I always buy a ton when it’s on sale because it hurts me to pay $5.00/12 cans.
Salsa - The pantry gets restocked when we dip below two jars in reserve
Eggs - Always try to have 2 cartons in the fridge
Cheese - the deli drawer is full of cheese and there is room for nothing else. Cheddar, havarti, cream cheese, parmesan, colby and curds right now. I haven’t had cheese go bad since I lost a brick behind the pickles.
Baby carrots and Southwest Ranch veggie dip
Cucumbers
Chicken - I usually grill half a dozen chicken breasts a week. I use them diced in salads, eggs, fried w/mushrooms and tomatoes or covered in cheese and salsa and wrapped in a tortilla. This is my attempt to reduce our pizza ordering to less than once a week.

Fruits in the summer. I just was at the Atwater Market in Montreal and bought:

a quart of strawberries
a pint of raspberries
2 quarts of currants
several pluots
Plus, we were brought two cases of mangoes.

All of this will be gone by the weekend. At which point I will buy a watermelon, which I could conceivably eat by myself. I LOVE FRUIT. My SO thankfully likes most of the above fruits, too.

It kind of violates the spirit of the OP because I deliberately don’t buy them very often because I would eat them all myself but cherries. Oh god I’ll eat them until they make me sick. Other types of fruit I eat a lot but it’s controllable, cherries I have no self respect or control. I have eaten 4lbs in an evening in the past. The only resolution is to not ever have more than a lb in the house.

If I could get to youtube I’d link that lovely “Witches of Eastwick” scene. . .

> Yeah, what _is_ it with toilet paper? OK, I get that women have to use some every time they use the toilet. But _day-um!_ And it’s the thick luxury kind that you don’t need to use as much of. A roll should last more than a couple of days! 😕

Three words: toilet paper mittens. I’m sure that’s why a lot of women use a ton of it; I use the bathroom as regularly as any other woman, and we still usually have a week or two in between toilet paper changes/

> Olive oil. Baguettes. It is THE snack in our household. Olive oil is a major chunk of our monthly grocery budget.

[Make your own baguettes if you have time](http://www.cookingbread.com/recipes/classics_bread/fabulous_french_bread_recipe.html). It’s delicious, makes the house smell great, and is cheaper than purchasing them.

I have an unladylike love of cherries as well; my living in Florida and being fairly cheap is part of why I don’t buy them often at all. A “great sale” price on cherries around here is $4.99/lb, and I can’t justify that for something I will gorge myself on.

Things we go through frequently: onions, garlic, yeast, flour, rice, carrots, “crunchy snacks”, green vegetables, apples. These days, we buy 50lb sacks of flour and rice just to make things easier, but haven’t found larger amounts of yeast than those little jars. We also go through quite a bit of meat/fish, but I try to vary what I buy from the store to eliminate boredom.

Cheese. I have bags of shredded cheese in my freezer. I’m lazy, I buy the pre-shredded stuff when it’s on sale.
Also milk (love me some chocolate milk), flour (when I’m in a baking mood), and sugar (damn hummingbirds).

Cheese. Beans, legumes. Rice. When I have the extra scratch, it’s always some fat, like butter, vegetable oils. Onions never stay long.

I’d say shitload lbs of rice + whole-grain pasta (I know, it can be gross, but there are some good products out there) per month. People never believe that I go through 20 or 50 lb bags of rice regularly, as a bachelor. And that I’m not that fat – cost to be the boss, I guess.

Veggie bacon. I buy the smallest package and eat it in one sitting.

Frozen pizza. I can buy a laege four cheese pizza, top it with veggie bacon, and eat the whole thing in one sitting.
