# What gets grease stains out of clothes?

IME, Shout works on stains, but not oil blotches.

Add a tablespoon of [trisodium phosphate](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trisodium_phosphate) (TSP) to your laundry detergent. It is available in powder form in the paint department at almost all hardware stores. Nothing else works as well for removing grease and oil stains from laundry.

I’ve had good results with [Goo Gone](http://www.magicamerican.com/googone/catalog/GooGoneCleaners.aspx). Just put it directly on the stain and wash as usual. It has even removed grease stains that had gone through they dryer.

Laundry detergent is the way to go, but you have to use a lot of it. As in, completely soak the garment in a bucket of it. I read this on the How To Clean Anything web site to get the stains out of clothes resulting from crayons going through the dryer. It worked.
