Used to get a processed nacho flavored spread in a plastic tube that looked like a sausage. The cap was in the center. Squoze out on whole wheat saltines was my whole lunch many a time. Of course, it’s been discontinued, like everything else I love. ---

Not much whole wheat in them, at least the nabisco version. Not much difference in taste. ---

I remember Zesta saltines being packaged that way when I was a kid, but, at least in my memory, Premium saltines have always been in the single-cracker sleeves. ---

Does anyone remember that period when [“generics”](http://historysdumpster.blogspot.com/2012/08/generic-products-of-80s.html) showed up in the grocery store? This would have been in the early 80s, I think. Canned and packaged goods had utterly plain black and white labels that said “corn” or “paper towels” or something. It was some kind of rebellion against brand names. I loved the generic saltines in the black and white box, because they were extra brown and toasty, not pale white like brand name saltines. They were great. Of course, they disappeared (see earlier post). ---

colby jack with spicy brown mustard cheddar with pepper jelly water packed sardines finely minced with onion and a dash of vinegar or tabasco sauce, or a bit of horseradish sauce cheddar or colby jack cheese with sliced sweet pickles (and ice cold pepsi in a can to drink) cheddar cheese and summer sausage summer sausage sans cheese butter 🎶these are a few of my fav-or-rite things to put on that cracker snaaaaack 🎶 ---

Growing up, it was creamy peanut butter for me - my parents ran a cheese shop for a few years, so generally we had various ‘specialty’ crackers in the house for anything else such as cheese and meats. For me though, my favorite was scooping up the beans and green chile mix at the Owl Cafe (both locations) in NM with the provided saltines. The sweet hot chile flavor, the denseness of the beans, and the salt and crunch of the saltines was perfect. I’m including a link that has a pic and to sell you all on visiting if you’re ever in that neck of the woods.
