Bullshit. The only thing they might be missing out on is the rampant sex that goes on in the Olympic Village. Comradeship is bullshit and they’ll have plenty of memories regardless. Better to compete and come home whole and un-contaminated than stay in the Village and catch who knows what from the water, etc.
The basketball team doesn’t ever stay in the Olympic village anyways. This isn’t something new for Rio.
The Athens Olympics were also not finished/constructed when it began. It went fine in the end.
It always goes pretty much fine in the end. Well, not always, but for the most part.
and two days later…
Rio Olympics Diving Pool Mysteriously Changes From Blue To Green
Here’s an article from The New York Times that goes into some of the problems, many of which you’d only see if you were there in person. The problems range from the minor (very few promotional signs are in place around the city, as compared to the many you’d expect for an event such as this) to the less minor (transportation among the sites is poor so that it might take two hours to get from Copacabana beach to the Equestrian Center 25 miles away) to the scary (the criminals, pickpockets and so forth).
Pool water is going to be filtered (he says before the diving pool turned green).
Only four events have swimmers in open water - the men’s and women’s triathlon, and the men’s and women’s 10K “marathon” open water swim. Those are all next week (swimming on Monday and Tuesday; triathlon on Thursday and Saturday).
Sochi has toilets now …
But to emphasize it was only 4 U.S. athletes and none of them were killed!
